Vortex scope zeroing question

Hey so I just zeroed a viper 6.5-20x50PA on my 308 at 100 yards and I'm pretty new to scope zeroing so I wrote down the adjustments I made between shots and added them at the end just so I know how far from mechanical zero I am. So my final adjustment numbers are 16 clicks up and 56 clicks right at 100 yards so 4 moa up and 14 moa right.

Does that sound normal ? Or does it sound like I wrote something in wrong? Is it normal to use almost half the windage adjustment (14/32.5) when zeroing at 100 on a calm windless day in a field protected by trees?

Is there a way for me to double check how far off I am from mechanical zero? On the turret there's lines marked 2 and 4. Wondering if those are full rotation counters. Also do you guys normally keep track of mechanical zero or do you just plop scopes on new rifles and just zero from wherever they were at before?

Tough to say but the base or the rifle itself may be slightly off which is why it took 14 MOA of windage adjustment to get it right. When I dropped my Vortex AMG on my Remington 700 with a NF rail it took about 1/2MOA to get the windage dialed in.

Generally a brand new scope will be set right in the middle of the adjustment range from factory. So in theory, if the scope has 30MOA of internal elevation adjustment, it'll be set so that you can go up or down 15MOA. Same goes for windage.

I've never kept track of how far I am away from mechanical zero in the scope. I mount a scope, zero it for 100 yards and shoot it. Then again, I've never really had any issues with not being able to get a scope sighted in.

Ya it’s a savage 10 with a stock rail on it. Didn’t have any problems sighting in just seemed like a lot of adjustment. Still have 18 moa right and 47 moa left available haha.. should be okay.

I seem to recall some of the savage 10's had the screw holes for the bases off Center. Maybe do a search on it here for more info.

That and some had bores massively off center as well.

Welcome to factory rifles. You are not insane. The zero is the zero .... things don't always point in the direction you expect.

If you want to center the windage, get some Burris rings with inserts... shim the scope mechanically, adjust your scope to get the windage closer to middle.

Enjoy the rifle...

I bet it still shoots very well.

I was thinking of getting some of those ordered actually, probably what I’ll do.

It does shoot quite well considering I’m amateur at best. Now that it functions properly at least... had some overpowered Winchester ammo blow primers out and crush the ejector spring and bend the pin. Took a loooong time for parts to come.
