Vortex Sparc 2 When all else fails, read the directions !

I didn't know about the astigmatism problem until I bought a Burris Fastfire III. All I saw was a starburst effect. I thought it was defective. I have a Lucid HD7 and a russian red dot on 2 other rifles and they both show to be perfectly round to my eyes which is why I was thinking it was the optic.

I think most shooters that discover Astigmatism is due to red dot's..... :)

I just ignore it and it works fine, not like I'm shooting at the olympics.

Outdoors is way better then inside for some reason so OP you should just go out and shoot it before you worry to much.

I'm really starting to notice the astigmatism driving at night in the rain with on coming headlights as well.

My vision has allways been pretty good and if not for red dot's I wouldn't have known there were any issues.... the head light thing is a sign of age for sure I guess. Still considering that some kids have coke bottle glasses I feel lucky!

f:P:2:

....the OP literally just got the red dot and turned it on.......probably hasn't even mounted it on the gun yet......and you're critiquing his use of it.

That's right. Using the dot incorrectly can lead to perceived distortion as well. Apparently the OP does in fact have astigmatism which also explains it. Seeing as most people fail to read the manual when they purchase something and this issue is beyond common with new reddot users/owners, it would seem prudent to point out the basics of reddot do's and don't.

I have my Sparc II on absolute co-witness so the red dot tail isn't a problem. My only beef is my front lens cover, when flipped up, is so loose it falls off when shooting sometimes. It is a bugger to snap close too. Does anyone else have this problem?

yeah have the same problem with the front cap but the rear one is fine, had put a few black zip ties or one with a release tab on the front objective lens end to prevent the cap from going down too far, the problem is it is a little too loose, so when the cap slides down the objective lens end protrudes past the scope cap making it impossible to snap closed, this way it hits the zip ties and stops... some electrical tape or gaffers tape around the end would have built up the scope diameter and done the same thing.

I contacted Vortex and explained my beef and they sent me a new tighter fitting lens cap. All is good now, Vortex stands behind their products.
