Just wanted some reviews on the Vortex SPARC RD on a shotgun.

If any of you have some pics reviews etc that would be great.

Might be a x-mas gift to myself.

Thanks

It will stand the recoil as i have one installed on my 91-30 Mosin and after one hundred rounds the zero is still good... JP.

Mine's supposed to be coming in the mail tomorrow! I'm going to try it out on my fabarm, but I think it will probably spend more time on the rifle.

I'll let you know how it does as soon as I have my hands on it!

I have one on my 3 Gun Winchester Defender but I haven't shot it enough to give any sort of review. I had to purchase a mount (an S&J I think) and have it installed (drilled and tapped the receiver) by a local gun smith but I'm really happy how it looks.

Zeroed nice, both with slugs and buckshot.

Anyone who things an optic is useless on a shotgun doesn't shoot slugs, doesn't shoot 3 Gun, and doesn't shoot at anything over 3 m away. Just my opinion - YMMV.

well i can shoot good with a bead but i put a fast fire 2 red dot sight on my 870 and i never missed a shot on a grouse this year and faster getting on target also

Got one on my 887. I've only used it for a one-day tactical course so far, but once zeroed it held perfectly and I really enjoyed having it, particularly for slugs. Also, my gun seems to pattern low-recoil Remington buckshot pretty tightly even with an open choke.

Short of poor eye sight there's no reason to mount an optic on a shotgun.

Ummmmm.... on a 18" 870 it's personal preference, and I prefer not. On my slug gun, I'm very impressed with my trs-25 for price vs. my cackhandedness/recoil(about 200 down the pipe?)/hunting on the Wet Coast.

That's a sweet 887 sparq

I have one mounted on my 14" 870 with the Mesa high tube adapter. I haven't shot it yet, but it seems like it will fit the bill nicely.

I just did an interview with the National Wild Turkey Federation. A decent optic will help you score head shots on a turkey in many different lighting conditions and at the outside envelope of accuracy for a shotgun. I'd say tasty turkey and stuffing is a great reason to mount an optic on a shotgun.

I got a red dot on 11-87 turkey gun since 1990, one of the first Bushnell and 42 turkeys later it is still running perfect, check my adjustement every year on a head neck pattern, never touch the adjustements since 1990... Cheers. JP.

Don't know why, but the Sparc and the 887 Tac seem to fit each other esthetically.

:jerkit: another broad sweeping statement based on nothing more than short sightedness and ignorance. To be perfectly clear... I TOTALLY disagree.

While it may not always be necessary a red dot on a shotgun is a very useful addition if shooting slugs and or three gun matches where speed counts. No doubt it lends itself to faster target acqusition. Despite the fact that I have 20/20 vision I run a Sparc on my slug gun (which I also use for three gun) and it holds up just fine. If you figure it is what you need then try it out. I find it worthwhile.
