So I just came back from the range and the first test of my new spotting scope, I thought some people might like to hear how it performed.

The scope is the Vortex Nomad 20-60x80. I bought it from Cameraland in New York. They have a deal on these as they are unlabeled scopes. (although mine still has the Vortex logo embossed in the rubber, so I don’t see how that is unlabeled) and are offered for a way lower price than the regular Nomads. It comes with the unconditional warranty. The total cost to my door was $287.00, and took about 20 days to arrive.

At first glance the scope looked to be quite good quality. The housing is rubberized and waterproof, and it comes with a built in sun shade. The front lens cover clips in, and the eye piece cover is a solid “cap’ that threads snug on to the eye piece. The soft case is set up so you can uncover only the front lens, eye piece and the mounting base for the tripod, and use the scope but still keep it protected with the cover

At the range I was really impressed with the optical quality of the scope. At 50 yards I could make out crisp detail on a small insect that landed on my target. At 100 and 200 yards I could easily see 7mm & 30 cal holes at the lowest power, 20x. At 300 yards I could see .223 holes at 40-60x. The focus was good, took a little back and forth to get it dialed in at the highest power but wasn’t finicky at all. Magnification was great up to 50x and good up to 60x, with only a little distortion at the highest power. It out performed my buddies Bushnell Spacemaster 2

All in all I am really impressed with this scope and would recommend it to anyone looking for a lower priced spotter.

i just picked up a vortex nomad tonight in calgary, as far as i can tell, last one in the city, wholesale sports sells out when ever they get them, good price point for quality and bullet proof warranty. I will see what is like this weekend.
