Long range "precision" shooting demands the ability to read mirage under poor lighting conditions and you need pretty good glass to do that.
It concerns me regarding some of the responses above in reference to the arbitrary assessment on quality of glass.
Using a scope to shoot 800 yards is no reflection whatsoever regarding glass quality. It just indicates that you can see through it, which is pretty much the very most basic function of a scope. I'm hopeful there is a considerable optical difference which
thedudey seems to be leaning toward.
If the Strike Eagle glass is not considerably better than the Diamondback Tactical then is not worth a dime more unless you are a PCP airgun shooter, which is about all the Diamondback Tactical is good for.
I produced and printed this optical resolution chart (see link below) on 8.5x11 paper and used it to evaluate a variety of optics at about 18 yards. My conclusion is that the Diamondback Tactical is the worst scope I own. It's worse than any other optic produced in the last 60 years that we compared it to. In short, completely unacceptable for "precision" shooting beyond 15 or 20 yards.
Yes, we can see the target with it, but simply spotting 22 cal bullet holes at 100 yards is a challenge. It's as though there is a fog over the glass and it is never focused. Just too much diffusion. Poor resolution.
To provide a sense of how bad the optical performance of the DT is for you guys, I could not read anything from 0.7 down on the chart but anything on that row was real tough and blurred.
I would be real interested in some feedback some of you could provide regarding what you can read with a Strike Eagle if you print a copy and have a look with your scopes. I certainly hope its better for twice the price.
FWIW, I could
easily read the entire small line with a 50 or 60 year old Bushnell Sentry at 20x that I bought for $40.
Make sure you select fit to page, because the PDF is larger than 8.5x11 so you get best resolution.
