Hey all,

Considering a Vortex Venom 3 MOA red dot to put on a shotgun for turkey hunting. Just wondering if anyone has one and can perhaps offer their thoughts on the sight?

Thanks for any and all opinions/reviews/thoughts.

Cheers!

I have the 3MOA on pistols. Works just fine, but I will admit it took some getting used an RDS on a pistol. I suspect that using it on a shotgun would be a simple adjustment.

Got one on a Ruger PCC9, no issues.

Could you elaborate please? Did you find the sight not beefy enough as in it couldn't handle the recoil?

Yea, they sent me a new one but the battery compartment in them is not well done and under heavy recoil it will go flying. Also the electronics had issues under recoil as well. No issues with a new on on my .223 though and never did try to replacement on the shotgun again.

I did use and really liked the Prism x1 for my Turkey gun, the optic lended itself well with the bullseye retical and option of illumination or not cause it’s etched instead of just the dot. Much beefier optic.

I've been also curious about putting an open reflex sight on a tacticool shotgun. Similarly concerned about pistol sights handling the 12ga recoil.

Some of the early ones had a battery problem, mine for example just stops working randomly. Take the battery out, put same one back in, and works again. Lifetime warranty will get used one day soon. I replaced it with a Holosun 507C and couldn't be happier. Glock 9mm, not a shotgun.

I have one on my shot guns for 3 years and no problem, and I use max load shot shells which I reload and it has not killed it, the only thing I had to do was to put a rise underneath it, it was to low for my shotgun

Mine went out one day, and I found the battery cover was loosening with each shot. At one point it got too loose. Now I give the cover a little twist each time I use the gun.

Yeah mine went out on a Stage at the PPC Provincials. Lucky that I had good muscle memory and was only 7M, that I didn't loose too many points. It was when I realized I wish I had a taller front sight. But I think the battery connections got bent out.

I am running one on a 1911 45, 6mil, good for steel, but for bulls eye the 3 mil would be a lot better.
I had trouble with a new one losing battery power.
They sent me a new one fast and no problem. I would think a 12 ga would not be any harder than a 45 slide recoil.
I have had it about 3 yrs , but not a lot of rounds 300-400? maybe.
