Thinking about putting RDS on my Glock 17 Gen 4 and can't make up my mind, Venom or Viper? Watched some YouTube videos and still not clear :). Please share your experience.

I have the Viper and the 6 moa dot is small enough for me, so I can't see on a pistol wanting a 3 moa, which is available on the Venom. Certainly not needing the 3 moa option on a pistol. As well, the battery replacement is actually quite easy and secure on the Viper. No fooling around with a screw on cap that might be too loose or accidentally cross threaded. You just put the battery on the bottom and re-install the sight. It won't lose point of aim because its located by 4 very tight fitting location pins. Just tighten the two hold down screws and there you have it. I would get whichever one you prefer, but don't avoid the Viper because the battery is on the bottom. Its not an issue.

I have both, toss up, the Viper is smaller, battery on top
Varoom battery on the bottom, pain in the ass, but it has more adjustment ( brightness) and a auto setting for light/dark, never really used it as I was shoothing that one in the winter in a indoor range and I would turn down for a fine dot for bulls eye. They are both 6 mm, I had a 3mm tasco type, great for indoor stuff, out side on steel, could not see the damn little dot. Would be fine on bulls eye paper.
I have the Viper on 1911 45 and the other on a 9mm Canik which I have sold , just wanted to try one, and then sell, friend played with it and loves the thing.

I have a Viper on mine and a Venom on another pistol...Prefer the Venom as its a top load battery...Battery life is awesome but changing it on the Viper is a pain in the field if you use loctite on your mounting screws.

Other than that, the only difference is aesthetic as far as I can tell...they are slightly different shapes.

I have 2 Venoms; one on a Shadowline with a 3 moa dot and a 6 moa model on an 870. I find the 6moa works well for the 870, but I shoot at 35 m with the Shadowline and tje slightly smaller dot is nice there. If it was more run and gun with the Shadowline I think I would want the 6moa.
