I'm looking at buying a Vortex Viper 1-4x24 to put on a Daniel Defense DDM4v7 milspec+. Am I making a smart move? Or am I'm going to regret this optic? Help!

Depending on your budget and your needs, it's a suitable optic.

More info would help those with knowledge and experience make a better determination of your choice.

What ranges will you be shooting at?

Is it for plinking or competition?

The ones I've ran were good for my needs, keep going back to them as they are a true 1x with a good reticle, and with a cattail throwlever can be easy to manipulate to 4x.

Well, the price it right - $600. Most of my budget went on the rifle. The rifle is a 5.56 so I'm not looking at great distances. It is something I would like to be able to compete with some day. Iron sights are not good with my eyes (progressive lenses). I have used a red-dot, but I find it obscures the target at greater distances than 50 yards.

I have one on my Colt M4 and it shoots great. I have even had hits out to 300m gong. Make sure you get right mounts, I have the cantilever that mounts to the pic rail. Even at 100m, hits are within a pie plate easy. The 4x mag seems about right, even though you shoot and cant see, you will be surprised with the hits. Warranty is no hassle, very good, never had to use it. This is my second year and its been banged around, and still held zero last week.

Oh ya, and the red illumination i never use, or had to use, as i have shot all day time, and yes 3-gun. Nothing wrong with Eotech for the same price but you dont have the mag. at $500.

If you're on a tight budget, have a look at the new Bushnell 1-4x PCL Throwdown optic. I've got one on my M4V5 and it's holding zero nicely and the glass is nice and clear. It's an FFP scope with a BDC reticle for $300.

I have two of them in mils. Would be a really sweet scope if it were FFP. I only use them for CQB and they stay at 4x. Works ok... have won several matches with them. Will probably replace then with PST 2.5-10x32mm before the end of summer (If I can find them).

I am running a Vortex Diamond Back 4-12X at 40yards on my AR I like it around 7-8x. I like to see what I shot with out walking down range. I tried a 4x first I could not see a thing. I am pretty new to rifle but I am guessing most people dial there guns in with a range finder at 1-4x ?
