I just recently changed scopes from my Bushnell 4-14x40 and bought thvortex viper 4-12x40 bdc but just recently the store i bought it from put the vortex viper hs 4-16x50 mm scope up for sale and if could easily just exchange it. Was curious if it is worth it to spend the extra 150$ and get the viper hs. I haven't shot with either one yet so was curious if anyone has any opinions. I will have it set up on my Remington 30-06 and I'll be going after deer elk moose and bear with it so i was curious if anyone has had both and they have any thoughts. Thank you in advance.

I could be wrong.... the viper has a little less eye relief then the viper hs (3.1" vs. 4"). The glass is the same, the the tubes I believe are both 30mm. The only other difference might be in how much elevation/ windage adj you get.

Check out the vortex website. They have a comparison page that heads to heads specs.

I have a 4-16x50 viper hs and love it.

Agreed! I use the 4-16-50 Hs and I really feel that the hs model is better for hunting hence the hs. Viper scope's are beautiful (crazy vip warranty) but the hs has an almost instant eye relief. Time is huge when hunting as you know. Now that I have used it I'm not sure I could ever go back to anything less than 30mm. Either way you can't go wrong with the viper.

I had the Viper 3-9x and I found that the shorter eye relief also gave me a bigger picture. However, If you are going to hunt bear, I would recommend the HS 2.5-10x44.
