like the title says looking for thoughts on this scope. wondering if any one can compare it to something that is a little pricier. or should i save my coins and buy something more expensive ? its going on a tikka .243
mainly use the rifle for deer, and the odd coyote.

thanks guys.

I have the HS in 4-16 x50 but believe the LR version comes with 1/2 MOA elevation adjust - I elected for the non LR model. I like the scope - looked at the reticle substensions in MOA last night. The line is .156 MOA which is incredibly thin to my eye, then went over to Nightforce and saw their reticle lines even thinner.

I haven't had it out hunting yet but it's on my .243 M700 - think it is a nice scope and I bought it specifically for coyotes. If you are long range minded (I am theoretically) you can add 20 MOA bases or rings to get more elevation adjustment for crazy shots well beyond most hunting scenarios. Of course you have capped turrets, but you can leave the caps at home and use the turrets as you would on the LR model, only 1/4 MOA for finer adjustments - good for groundhogs or other stationary varmint.

My Tikka .243 has the PST FFP in 6.5-24-50. I like the BDC reticle better for hunting. Hope this helps.

i recently purchased the viper hs 2.5-10x44 for my .204. I was scared of the thin lines, but that was until i took it outside and looked all over the place with it, the lines never blended in with anything i looked at. The eye relief is huge on it as well. When i bought it, there was a guy who had recently come back from an african safari trip that has the same scope i bought, he claimed that one of the gentlemen in his hunting party had a very expensive swarovski, and they often swapped thier rifles back and forth to compare the optics, and the only difference was the swarovski was marginally better in the first and last 10 minutes of daylight. if those moments matter to you i guess i would pass on the vortex and look at something nearly 2-3x the price.

If you buy the Vortex viper HS LR 4-16x50 you'll get a damn good scope. If you ever take the plunge and pay a lot more for something like a Swarovski or Schmidt & Bender you'll get a damn great scope. Something that's built like a cross between a tank and a Swiss watch. You do get what you pay for.

For a Tikka a Vortex Viper is perfectly fine. The scope matches the price of the gun. I'm thinking of getting a Vortex Viper PST for my Remington 700 SPS Varmint in .308.

If it was an expensive Steyr or Sako I'd want to spend more on a scope.
