She finally came in from a very long backorder due to the factory being hit by a tsunami. So needless to say, I was PUMPED to get this thing on my remington 700.

First impressions:
-Pretty!
-Awesome reticle
-VERY nice feeling clicks and controls.
-Eye relief is GENEROUS, enough for any caliber. Also does not change much between magnification settings.

First impressions were, well, impressive

My mounting solution:
-Badger 20 MOA rail
-Burris XTR low 30mm rings

Fit and finish:
The finish is perfect, I thought it was going to have a slight blueish grey tinge to it from Vortex stock photos.
It is a nice, non reflective black finish.
The fit of the scope is nice, everything works the way it is supposed to, all of the markings are nice a sharp. The packaging it came in was very good, sturdy, laser engraved vortex foam! fancy. The bikini scope covers included do their job. The owners manuals are clear and easy to follow.

Glass:
I find the clarity and quality of picture to be superb, weather it's at 6x or 24x, the picture is very clear, way better than any other scope I have ever owned. That being said, this is my first "high dollar" scope. It may not be as good as a NF or a S&B or something like that, but I have never looked through super gucci optics to compare to.

Reticle: EBR-1 MOA
Thick enough at 6x to be seen easily, thin enough to be accurate at 24x. The subtensions are bang on accurate as well, as they should be.

I so wish that I had a better camera and a steady way to take a picture of this. I took a few anyways to show it anyways, so keep in mind, the glass IS much sharper and clearer than these photos

*Note*This is my friends ice hut who was with my to verify it was EMPTY, and the bolt was removed while taking these pictures!

Illumination:
It makes me smile every time I light that beauty reticle up. Perfect, not too much, but enough. Knob has off positions in between brightness settings. It is hard to see during the day, when you don't really need it. For some reason settings 4 and 5, do not work. It will be going back for warranty because of this, and this only.

If the price tag was less, I would not care at all about this, because unless you are using night vision, these settings probably wouldn't even be used. So I have contemplated just keeping it, but I can't justify spending over $1,000 for a scope that isn't perfect.

Sorry for the blurry pictures, I am NO pro haha

Turrets/Clicks/Adjustments:

Clicks are very very nice feeling. Enough resistance to be not accidentally moved. They are quiet, affermative, and very sharp feeling.
viprpst10.jpg

The turrets are clearly marked (elevation has fiber optic strip to indicate zero) There is 12 MOA of adjustment per revolution.
viprpst11.jpg

Adjustments are bang on, and repeatable. The zero stop is easy and works well. The zoom and focus adjustments are tight enough to be precise, but not too tight. Just perfect

And here are some more photos from various angles

Tight clearance between the KRG bolt knob and the ocular eyepiece!

All in all, I feel like my money was well spent, vortex as a company has a very good reputation, and offer an excellent lifetime transferable warranty. I would reccomend this product to ANYBODY looking for an "entry level" high quality scope.

Any questions that anybody has, feel free to ask, and I will try to answer to the best of my abillity.

Great pics man! I have the same scope and am very pleased with it as well. Having the reticle and turrets matched along with FFP is a real treat for long range shooting. Thanks for posting!

Thanks, I just wish I had an SLR camera so I could focus properly and better represent the quality of the glass.

WOW!!!

I just bought a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 PA with the dead hold BDC reticle, it should be here next week, (im putting it on my Savage 93R17 BSEV)..... after seeing this reticle, i wish it would have had the same! (minus the light up!), i love this reticle!

after seeing this review, i can't wait to get the scope! i have the feeling its gonna put the Tasco 4-16x40 to absolute shame! (i actually like the "deadzone reticle", but its too thick!)

these Vortex scopes look like a really good value.....

I just got the PST 2.5-10x44 EBR-1 MRAD and can echo the praise. I have not been able to shoot mine yet, waiting on rings. But I have used S&B glass and while they are not equal this comes as close as any of us will ever notice for a fraction of the price.

great review. pretty much on par with most reviews, these things look cool, but never work properly.

Pardon? Never work properly?

Every function of the scope works flawlessly. Minus two NV brightness settings which I and 95% of most shooters, will never use.

As far as optical clarity, and function/precision of adjustments are superb.

Every other review I have read have been saying the same.

I'm not sure what you mean by never work properly?

Congrats on your purchase, hopefully you will love your viper as much as I love mine!

And yea, a lot of reticles are too thick for target shooting with .17HMR's, they are so accurate and leave such a tiny hole. That's why I have my Millet LRS on mine, super thin reticle.

Let us know how you like it once you get some rounds down range!

I've been tinking of something in that magnification range for an upcoming M-14 build

Will, do. I am pumped, this is the first higher end scope I have owned. Got a sweet deal on it in the EE too :D

Thats my plan for this, its going to end up on my m14 for the july m14doctor/Hungry clinic

I'd recheck your low IL rect in the dark ......

or are you saying just 4& 5 dont work but 123 does?
Dont know what they were saying about the scope being lower , was the post edited?, looks too low/tight to me @ the extended bolt ....plus " if " you wanted to attach scope covers would they fit? but its all about what u like not someone elses opion

I have the 4-16 x50 IL ebr1 mrad ffp I didnt want that much mag as I'am gonna hunt with it (308 savage) and range shoot
to me the scopes has alot nicer options (mrad ebr1 ffp IL(red not green!) more variable range ,zero stop. 30mm ) then the bushnell tacticals I also looked at....PLUS there warranty is no questions asked

You can also get a custom turret done if u reload or shoot one brand
I just wish it was 3-18 or 2.5- 18 just to make it abit better for both hunting & the range but thats me

Iam super happy with mine , didnt even think of vortex line till store asked what I wanted and this fit my "want" list almost perfectly
I was also going to stick with rem 700 but savage .....like vortex checked my "want" list

Yes, settings 1,2,and 3 work. 4 and 5 do not, 6-10 are fine.

As for the height, yea scope covers clear with room to spare. The clearance is tight at the bolt knob, but I dont find it to be an issue.
I was trying to get it as low as possible for proper cheek weld, and to get as close as possible to the bore.

Just out of curiosity how are you checking settings 1-6? Do you have night vision?

Even in complete darkness, no other light, I can only see 6-10 with my eye.

Shawn

In darkness, I can visibly see 1-3 with my eyes. Not well enough to "light up" the reticle, but enough to see a see a difference from the off positions.

And my battery is brand new.

I have this scope in mill on my sako 338LM and it is a fair scope
little milky over 20X when clowdy, but still very good scope for the price
and the most important, turrets track is dead on and zéro holds on
