Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 ffp EBR-1 review. LOTS of pictures

That answers some of the questions my friend is looking for.
He just purchased a SS Remington 700 5R .223 and wanted to know what to put on it for a scope. He asked me to check out Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 ffp EBR-1.

Who has them in stock?

The other thing he is interested in is the rings and bases.
What do you suggest he get?

I believe One Shot Tactical has them for $999.99.

Also there's a guy selling one on the EE for $1300

As for rings, it depends on the budget. Talley, TPS, Badger Ordnance, Seekins, the list goes on.

Just ordered my viper pst ffp 6-24 milRad EBR-1 from grouse outfitters. They got a $5 shipping promo. But wait time on the milRad is 8wks+ ARRRGGGGGG!!!

I've already been waiting 8 weeks since I ordered mine from Grouse River, so it looks like it will be at least another 8 weeks. Did Grouse River come out and tell you that it would be 8+ weeks, or did they sort of beat around the bush like they did when I ordered mine, and when I've contacted them recently? I expected mine to be here by now, so I am not impressed with Grouse River or Vortex.

Now I have to decide if I want to cancel the order and buy a Nightforce.

If this is how Vortex deals with orders, I'm not sure that I want to see how long a warranty issue takes them.

I was not paying attention to the FFP part since I am not a fan of FFP. I know for a fact that the Sportsman Den had PST's in stock. I was at ATRS today as well and they had PST's in stock.

I just have a s**tty 16X But I love it.... Some people say it fails the box test by a few mm and its a big deal for them... For me I hunt deer with this riffle... It held zero for the past year and all my range trips...

I just got off the phone after talking with the Vortex Canada distributor, and was told that there is a 6 to 8 MONTH wait for their PST scopes with the FFP reticle, particularly their 6-24x50 model.

The distributor could not give me a firm shipping date, and was surprised that Grouse River was providing wait time estimates, because he (the distributor) didn't know when his next order would be shipped.

I'm not impressed with Grouse River for being less than honest about wait times, and I'm not impressed that Vortex can't ramp up production to meet demand.

The Nightforce F1 is looking better by the day.

Guys,

I've had a PST 6-24x50 FFP EBR-1 MOA scope for about a month, but I'm still waiting on my rifle to come back from the smith, so it's just been sitting in the safe, waiting. Tonight I took it out of the safe, along with an FX3 6x42 that I have, and did some optics comparisons after sunset. The FX3 6x42 is one of the only scopes to have every scored a "7+" on John Barsness' optical quality test, FWIW.

Here are my findings, with both scopes set on 6x, and the reticle and parallax (if adjustable) focused for 100 yards. I was looking at a shingled roof at 98 yards, with a chimney on top.

- The FX3 seemed to have better contrast

- PST had better resolution

Colour fidelity goes to the PST, as well, but brightness between the two scopes was about equal, as near as I could tell.

I was bored, so I thought I'd throw that out there, FWIW.
