Vortex Viper that attaches DIRECTLY TO A SHOTGUN?

That's a great list, thanks for the link.

The 870 reciever has been manufactured with some having 3 threaded holes for mounting a rail and some have 4 threaded holes for a rail installation.

SJ hardware sells 3 hole and 4 hole rails so which one does this item fit ?

Or is the hole spacing the same on all 870's where a 3 hole can be used on a 4 and a 4 on a 3 ?

Look more closely at it. It has 2 mounting holes at the rear, only one of which needs to be used. At the front end it has an elongated slot which could accept a screw anywhere along its length, or even two depending upon the receiver hole spacing. Simple, effective and very versatile.

Am I the only one thinking it's not about turkeys, but rather all about ducks and geese? I swear, I just heard giggling coming out of the gun safe that my SBE 2 lives in. Then a note slipped out from under the safe door, that simply read "Just buy it already."

You are right, this thing is almost a universal fit.

Pricey , but the more I look at it the more I want to try it out.

It would be good if more manufacturers took Vortex's lead on making an integral shotgun low mount similar to this.

I'm also finding this thing more and more interesting the longer I look at it. Not just for shotguns, either. Lever actions, pump/semiauto rifles, 10/22's, muzzleloaders...basically anything with a straight-line flat top surface that has a few holes drilled/tapped could probably work with it. If you like a nice low mounting height, as many of us do, this offers advantages over just about any other red dot I've ever seen in that regard.

I'm thinking to get one just to monkey with it and see what I have that would work with it.

I just put one on my Beretta A400 that I'll be using on snow geese in a couple of weeks. I'll let you know how it works
