I recently picked up a Vostok BN-6,5 rifle that's missing some hardware on the stock- ie the rails and the sling attach swivel. Anyone have ideas as to where or who might have some real oddball bits an pieces sitting around in a drawer such as these?

Also, has anyone ever seen 6.5x54R ammo? I have a plan to neck down some 7.62 to work, however finding some of the 'right' stuff might be helpful-

Originally, biathlon was shot with fullbore rifles, 6.5 cal, .243, 7.62x54R and similar, at ranges of 100m, 150m, 200m and 250m at blown glass targets. It was only in the 1970's that biathlon evolved to use rimfire rifles at 25 and 50 yards, as space for a fullbore race course was difficult to come by. So far I've come across fullbore biathlon rifles manufactured by Vostok and Sako. In general, examples are extremely rare.

This Vostok is chambered in 6.5x54R, which is essentially 7.62x54R necked down to 6.5mm

Good luck finding any leftover rounds for it. I've seen one box on an auction list once in my life, and they walked off before they made it to the auction block. So they, do exist, in theory.

6.5x54R is listed in the 1989 International Firearms Ltd (Montreal, QC) catalog, so there still must be a few boxes floating around out there.

I am jealous beyond words I have been looking for one for a long while.
please post where you will get dies for this caliber I can't find a thing no dies no reamers nothing, and ammo I saw a picture of some once. Thanks in advance.

:D good luck finding them though. There was a poster on here in the last few years who had bought a rifle with a few boxes of ammo, maybe they will pipe up. Generally the ammo and its boxes are now considered mildly collectable, and I would not expect finding any any time soon. Reloading is the way to go.

For parts, check one of the mosin dedicated sites, someone somewhere may have them.

CH4D have dies listed for it.

6.5 x 54 R 2 F $ 81.38, Just a quick note, Make sure it's not 6.5x54R Dutch.

If you can get dies, you'll have to neck down and trim the neck wall as it will be a bit to thick after resizing.
You could modify, say a 6.5 x55 and make it a neck sizing only die?

They are very accurate rifles.

Pete

that is precisely what I heard but without a reamer I can't even build one. my thoughts are to get a 6.5 blank and ream it out then thread it.
