VX-3L VS Conquest

Hi Everyone...
i hope i'm not opening a can of worms, and i hope i'm not starting an argument here....
I have an 85 Bavarian in .300 WinMag that i'm in the market to scope these days....
i'm interested so far in 3 scopes... zeiss, leupold, and swarovski...
swaro is out of budget, so zeiss & leupy...
i need suggestions from someone who's got both and tried them in person... i know there are personal preferences and good/bad experience, but that'd help me make an informed decision... lets not base the judgement on service, coz i understand leup wins here coz their service center's 15 mins from my house... i'm hoping i wouldn't need to send either to service... so let's just focus on quality and functionality

now i'm looking specifically at the leupold VX-3L with CDS and the conquest with rapid z-600...
min magnification 3:4.5 & max magnification 10:12
limitations are 1" tube and $1G range...

so... lets hear from the gurus out there...

I have Leupolds on all my rifles, all VXIII and VXL's, never let me down for the last 30yrs or so, never had to use the warranty but I hear its great. I know I'll get flamed for this but I would put a 1.5-5 VX3 Illuminated reticle on that rifle, thats what's on my M70 300WM
 
I prefer the Conquest to the Leupold although I do have a couple of Leupolds and they are good scopes. The one major draw back with the Leupold scopes is the changing eye relief when you change magnification. The Conquest, NF etc are constant through the entire range.

Other options to consider. The Burris Fullfield II 3-9x can be found for $200 to $250. A very simple scope with excellent optics and a real bargain for the price.

Another option is the Sightron SIII. I haven't tried one of these yet, but I plan on having a few of them on my rifles in the future. There is a change in eye relief but it seems to be minimal until you get to their high magnification scopes.
