I have a VX3 and love it. Going to be upgrading my VX2 and looking at the following to go on a 338 win mag
Z3 3-9x36mm for $799
VX3 CDS w Windplex $639

What you guys think - the only benefit to Z3 may be better glass is the extra money and no CDS and Windplex reticle worth it?

Depends on your end use.

I have a few of each and I strongly prefer the ‘Swarvo’ Z3. For a general purpose big game hunting scope, that little 3-9x36 is perfection imo.

Swarovski does offer ballistic type reticles too FYI, though I can’t say for sure if they’re offered on the little 36mm Z3.

I have two VX3i 3.5-10x40mm Windplex CDS. The Windplex is about as non-traditional a reticle as I prefer, it's not that crowded. The CDS is nice for the range but I wouldn't bother while hunting.

I typically prefer the Leupolds because they are much lighter than the competition but with the Z3 3-9x36 this is not the case.

Can't go wrong with either. The VX3i is definitely brighter than the VX2.

I handled both side by side and chose the vx3i. I like the windplex reticle and the turret on the z3 line doesn't feel as nice as leupolds offering. I thought the leupold was brighter as well.

I have the VX3i 3.5-10x40 CDS on my 300 wsm which is my go to big game rifle and its a great optic. I hunt the open prairie for whitetail and mulies and the CDS is awesome. Took my whitetail this fall at 455 with the dial, was bang on with my 180 accubonds. I didnt get the windplex but in hindsight I should have got it. All my rifles now wear Leupolds, I sold off a Z5 and Zeiss Conquest HD after some nightmarish warranty dealings with zeiss, alos got rid of a few Burris scopes. Leupolds are fixed in a week...good luck with the Euro stuff...it takes months and they do break...been there done that.
Im not a huge fan of Korth but theyve had to pull up their socks with the Vortex and Bushnell doing the "no fault" warranty and have had good service with them the past few dealings.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I'm going to go with Leupold...
I also might try and save up a little more and see if I can afford one of those new VX5HD I hear they are quite good. I hear swarvo has a good warranty, but I have been told nothing beats Leupold.
THanks for the insight on the Ziess - that was another scope I was also just starting to look at but glad you could shed some insight on the warranty issues with them :)

To be fair Zeiss did come through in the end but it was painfully long, missed an entire big game season and had to make numerous phone calls and emails to get things done. Leupold on the other hand would have had the situation dealt with in 2 weeks max.
