I just got a like new VXIII 2.5x8 Matte w/B&C reticle, @ at VERY good price!! .... brag brag brag. :D

The new click adjusters are a nice addition to the Leupolds. Too bad they STILL don't include some kind of scope cap to protect the lenses when not in use.

Question ....... Anyone use the B&C reticle? I plan on using it on either a 257Roberts or 270Win. Are the long range marks accurate?

Any other comments on the scope/reticle?

Not much different than the Ballistic plex, all to do with the marks lining up with bullet path. Should be easy to use, sight in the center x hair @ 100 or 200 meters depending on tragectory of the bullet. And come up to each of the lines below the hor. x hair as range to target increases.... :)
Oh, you suck SC, good deal  ;) :p

Sounds like envy to me.

Don't you know the one that says "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's Leupold" ? :)

If that don't rot yer socks, this will ...... Last fall I was able to find a brand new, in the box, still wrapped Leupold VXIII matte in 1.5x5 for $300, on my door step. :dancingbanana:

Supercub,
I have a couple Boone & Crockett reticles, both on 4.5-14 x 40 LRs. One is mounted on a Kimber 22/250 and the other is on my Gaillard built M70 7mm STW. Used with and without a lazer rangefinder the B&C has killed more than a few 400-450 yard coyotes. Up til now I have yet to use any other than the main-crosshair of the STW, but that's not a bad thing. I prefer the slightly heavier reticle to the standard duplex too. That is more a personal preference than anything.
The drops may not be exactly what the charts say to expect, but should easily be within a couple inches plus or minus. Plenty close enough for big-game. When you think about it, nobody seems to have much problem with sighting in their hunting rifles 3" high at 100 and using the MPBR method, acknowleding that this is close enough. Varmint shooting requires a little more fine tuning, test firing and so on. Depending on the scope you may be able to use slightly higher or lower powers than the triangle setting to tweak your drops a bit.

if you check out the booklet that comes with the scope, the B&C reticle hold points are a certain MOA below the main crosshair. enter your cartridges ballistics into a program and find out what range your MOA drop is matching the crosshairs, and then go to the range

I considered this reticle for a long time for my long range moose rifle (300 RUM) in a 4.5-14x50 LR VXIII but sided with a Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x50 LR/T M1 illuminated TMR reticle. The Mil hash marks and illumination sold me for those low light shots at range. The B&C is a very nice reticle that works well when time has been spent at the range with it and notes taken! You might have to play with the magnification for the right subtensions and make note of what magnification works best for your load. A simple white dot of model paint on the power ring and the tube directly across from each other will help with a quick reference point when you need it. For handloaders, we can also adjust our load to match the subtensions if thats what you want to do....just find that magic volocity with the help of a trajectory program. My other four Leupold VXII's have the LR duplex's and LRV duplex on them which I look forward to dialing in for 500 yards.

I have a VXIII 4.5-14 X 50 LR on my 338 RUM Sendero and it is pretty slick. With the magnification set at 14X as it says in the instructions for a cartidge with the 338 RUM's velocity I bang the 12" steel gongs at the range from 200 - 300 - 400 yards one after the other as fast as I can reload the rifle, at 500 yards it hits about 5" higher than the reticle's aiming mark.
