Anybody see the VZ23 for sale on the Milsurp EE. Sold fast at $400 but I don't get it. I know the 23 is a hard to find rifle but this one was mismatched as far as I could tell and the bolt had been bent by Bubba. The original stock was totally butchered as well. Any of you guys agree or maybe I'm nuts?

I saw that rifle too and noticed the same things. The old adage seems to always apply though: a rifle is only worth what someone is willing to pay.

i just hope the new owner restores her to her former glory.

I saw it but didn't know the price until now. (it was marked spf by the time I got to it) Seems pretty high considering what it is.

Somebody did get a fun restoration project in the end though. You could trade or sell the K98k bolt for a proper CZ made straight bolt and VZ stocks are pretty cheap. Swap out the German floorplate for a CZ one and even though it would be a complete m/m, you'd have a correct looking example of a hard to find Mauser.

I bet an original would be snapped up for a grand or more in a heartbeat. From what I have read the VZ23 and VZ24 stocks are different with the 23 having barrel bands closer together. Restoration to original trim would be a tough go.

The only thing German on it I can see is the WaA floorplate. The bolt has no dirty birds on it and I've never seen the Germans number a bolt knob. The stock looks to be Czech in that there is a plug on the pistol grip where the Czechs hung a sling swivel. And the recoil lug doesn't look German. Maybe a Yugo capture? At any rate, pretty much a mixmaster.
