I recently acquired an old Czech Mauser from my Brother in law. It's stock was cut down and the bolt turned down by his father years ago for use as a hunting rifle. The caliber was converted to 308 at some point and it shoot pretty good as i cleaned it up and fired a couple of boxes out of it last fall. I wanna do some restoration work on it, and will be needing a stock plus all the metal parts to go with it. Does anyone know of any good places to look for these parts, and would someone be able to compile a parts list for me so i know im getting everything in need.I plan to post an EE ad in the near future but am looking for as many sources as i can to find what i need. Thanks.

PS here are some pics.

PPS;
I know its kinda rough, but i hope to be able to restore it back to decent condition and make it into a shooter.
How difficult and expensive would it be to change it back to 8mm Mauser, im not sure if the conversion to 7.62 was done for military reason, or for what military or if it just might have been done to make it more favorable to commercial buyers. I already have a Nork M305 in 308 and would be nice to have a different caliber as i dont have anything in 8mm for my world war 2 collection yet. Thank for any help.

leave it in 308 as it was done by the military , the barrel looks uncut so throw a add up on ee for a stock and it does need some small parts but not sure what there called

She is an Israeli conversion of a Czech VZ24 in 7.62 Nato.

The parts I can see you needing are a replacement stock (if you feel adventurous, you can splice on a replacement fore end with bayonet lug), a lower band, and an upper band.

From my experience with Israeli's, the lower and upper band are very difficult to put on the rifle while the front sight hood is in place so you may have to temporarily remove the front sight hood to restore her.

Ok, think ill be leaving her as a 7.62 if its a military conversion, its a great part of the history, and see if i cant get some good parts picked up somewhere. 308 is inexpensive to shoot and can be a good lot of fun. What chargers were used, i tried a 7.62 charger i use with my m305 that that was too big. Im also finding the last round in the magazine doesn't stay in when working the bolt, it just pops out of the rifle or stovepipes, any idea what might be wrong, it worked fine this fall after i gave the rifle its first cleaning in what looked like at least 15 years and shot a few round out of it.

So you need an Israeli K98k stock, handguard, upper and lower bands, and a bayonet lug. The handguard and bands are easy to buy off ebay and usually you can get new unissued ones for pretty cheap. A proper 7.62 branded stock should not be too hard to find and same with the bayo lug. Any K98k bayo lug will work. In the end you will have a nicely restored post war Czech made K98k that has been rebarreled by the Israeli's to 7.62. They are a great shooting k98k. I have one still in full military trim that is pretty much identical to yours.

As to the last round not staying down, you could try a different follower. Sometimes the conversion to a shorter round in the mauser action can cause feeding problems.

Don't think it's a VZ24. It is a K98k manufactured in Czechoslovakia probably sold to Israel subsequently rebarrelled to 7.62 and restocked in Israel in the 1950's. The finger grooves on the forend are an Israeli feature. A lot of Czech mausers sold to Israel had German produced parts complete with WaA markings on the barrelled action. Czech k98k's are excellent quality rifles overall and make good shooters.

I had a look at the markings, seen a 6 pointed star and a Czech Rampant Lion, plus a few other markings and the Czech Crest.I couldn't see any Nazi looking marks, but i did notice that the part for holding the hand guard in place was ahead of the hand guard not behind like most Czech Mausers I've seen. Ill have another look for more marking tmr sometime when i get a chance.

The bolt should be like that.No mod was done to the bolt. Just how nabs said Vz24 conversion made up into a k98k. You can look around gun shows or ebay for stocks.

Here is a pic of what your post WW2 Czech K98k converted to 7.62 by Israel would have looked like before it was sportered. The receiver is post war manufactured and the rest could be made of a combination of German WW2 or WW1 parts, post war Czech parts, and Israeli made parts. The barrel will have a date stamp on it that tells when the Israeli's converted it to 7.62. Part of the conversion was the large 7.62 stamp on the top of the receivers, 7.62 brand on the stock and the addition of a spacer in the front of the mag well for the shorter round.

jbmauser, what chargers are you using for this rifle, the charger i use for my m305 wont fit??

My assumption for the harger would be 8mm mauser ... I don't think they would have changed that when rechamber/barreling.

also you can get most all pars here: https://www.libertytreecollectors.com/productcart/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=40 or from numrich ...
