Hi folks,

Thought I'd share a few pics from this interesting contraption.

I got this rifle some time ago, original scope mounting rail on it. So...

Took me months but I was able to find an original, complete infrared scope kit, with its transport case. Not sure if the primitive electronic components have survived the test of time,I will try to get batteries providing proper current... (I believe the original batteries were labeled 4.5 volts and 20 watt bulb...) Fun stuff.

Lou

Wow - very cool. Would love an update with it running but appreciate the old school equipment in any event.

Missed out on one in Victoria last summer. Kicking myself for not getting it but 3k was a little rich. GR range of serial #'s

The Victoria VZ 52/57 with scope was mine, and they are very cool --- congratulations on putting together the kit, louthepou.

You're correct on the batteries being 4.5V wet cells:

You can do a simple test of the electronics by hooking three 1.5V AA batteries in series --- they won't last long, but will at least tell you if the electronics are functioning. If they are, you can try to source a new wet cell (I had no luck) or build a rechargeable pack from AAs as described here: http://www.dragunov.org.uk/nsp2/Page_1x.html

The electronics in my battery pack weren't working originally, but I took it apart and found the issue was with a dirty potentiometer --- when I cleaned it up, I was greeted with a high-pitch hum and a cool green image in the scope. Be careful not to turn on the unit in daylight without the pinhole lens cover installed --- that'll lightly damage the intensifier.

Interesting thread, Thanks to all for sharing those pictures.
Speaking as one who shoots a VZ 52/57 I am curious to know what the whole rig weighs because the bare rifle is no lightweight by itself..j

A lot of electronics run on 5V Li-Ion batteries that can be had cheaply on eBay. Most electronic repair guys will have variable DC power supplies for testing circuits. I'd have the electronics looked over and verified if they could handle today's 5V tablet batteries. Most electronics can handle higher voltages than their battery sources are.

if your looking for batteries, dont bother with aa's, find a rechargable LiPo battery, they use them in RC - Radio controlled toys everywhere, theres no doubt multiple vendors in your city that would carry this stuff. You can even get higher voltage lipos, 11-14v and run a BEC inline with it to step it down to 3-5v all DC.
