Hello folks!

Got myself a fairly new model of the Vz.58 here in Toronto. Picked up the sporter model.

Also went ahead and purchased the front rail system from BC Tactical.

Now taking myself no apprentice around tool's I got to installing this upgrade kit. Taking apart the Vz.58 was not too troublesome. The front pin for the handguard was extremely not co-operative. I heated it just incase of any loctite and managed to bang the sucker out with a metal hammer and a steel punch.

Now most important thing here, READ THE FAQ's on their website.

I sadly did not. I got the lower in place with force (and without proper filing). The pin I drove in there (again steel hammer) is likely never, ever coming out.

The top guard, while the tutorial video said apply "some pressure", I went ahead and had to use a table vice to get a proper line up. Even then I had to file some of the area's on the part (I found the FAQ at this point in my install) to get it down.

I suspect I could only remove the top guard now with a hammer + steel punch, and then unsure re-assembly would even be possible without a table vice again.

Questions I have;

1) Any issue's possible for the gun from having two pin's under high pressure (solid steel pins, one lower handguard, one upper handguard).

2) How often should I be cleaning my Vz.58's gas system? As of the tools required to clean the sucker a field cleaning will never get into the spring. Right now I am firing steel cased 7.62 x 39 rounds by Barnel.

3) Can a gun smith correct the damage I have done to this rifle by driving the pin's in hard, or should I start saving for a replacement rifle down the road?

Regards,

Joseph

i would be worried about the rifle changing its POI if it has allot of force against the barrel. thats just me though. i could be wrong?

it is a pressure fit system but you may want to fit it a little better if its way too tight. there site could help. try this page ht tp://www.bctactical.ca/faq.html

1. The only issue I see is if it is REALLY hard to get the handguard off and on, you may damage it in the process as it's made of aluminum.
2. I clean the gas system every time. The piston gets carbon built up on it and if you don't clean it frequently it will be an absolute ##### to clean it when you do. I scrape the carbon off. Also the upper and lower handguard get coated on it too. They get filthy on the inside.
3. You probably haven't damaged the rifle itself, but like I said it is likely you eventually damage the handguard unless you do some more grinding. I used a dremel with awesome results. Using a file takes way too damn long.

I find when taking the handguard off removing the bottom section first makes things easier. Hope this helps.

Noted.
I will buy some penetrating oil tomorrow and take the parts back off, file these guys better and let them feel more naturally loved for each other.

I assume the rifle is still safe to fire even with the tight fit?
