For some reason it's gotten in my head to add a bipod to my Vz.58. I'm not interested in a tactical polymer VFG/bipod one like Zahal sells, rather I'd like to go old school and buy one of the Czech surplus ones you can find on eBay and the web for about $95.

The problem is the bayonet lug -- or rather the lack of said lug on the CSA Vz.58 tactical sporter I own. I can't seem to source any aftermarket lugs (though I have seen old eBay auctions for an aftermarket lug and bayonet). Anyone have any idea where I can find one of these?

No, I have the NR version of the rifle.

Here's the end of the barrel:

The CSA manual doesn't even describe this as a bayonet lug.

Upon further review I get it...the pictures on this eBay auction (h ttp://www.ebay.ca/itm/Bipod-Original-Issued-For-Vz-58-Czechoslovakia-Army-Unused-Unissued-/301563517489?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4636961a31) pretty clearly show how it would slide onto that grove and then catch on the front piece.

Now to decide whether I love the idea of a bipod enough to spend $125Cdn on one.

you have to remember the bipod were originally designed for restricted (short barrel) , with NR (longer barrel) it tends to shoot 4" higher.

Its all good, the bipod would work well for a makeshift RPK type role. Area of vehicle accuracy.
Personally I love the factory bipod, looks ###ay.

If you can still get the original bipod for ~$100 I say do it. There werent universally issued so there isnt an enormous supply of them. I have two, theyre pretty sweet.

I figured I'd update this: The night I posted the question (April 15) I ended up ordering a milsurp bipod from the Czech Republic. It arrived yesterday (April 22) which makes me wonder why stuff that is drop shipped from the Czech Republic by Zahal takes so many weeks and costs me more in shipping.

At any rate, installed and here she is:

I'm going to take it out on Saturday to see what actual effect the bipod has on shooting. Regardless of the result, much fun will be had!

Where do you find one of those Bi-pods? I've been looking for them. Couldn't even find one at the gun show in Surrey. Every vendor I asked said "No we don't have it but buy one of our garbage bi-pods instead." That's not how they said it but that's pretty much how it was. $125! Damn! I thought it might be expensive though since a side folding stock sells for $50.
