I was going to post this under Action Shooting Sports, but figured I may get a better response here.

Does anyone use a VZ-58 for 3 Gun competition and if so how do they find it. I am looking at getting one for myself and may be interested in trying 3 Gun down the road.

I had been looking at an AR, but the price of the VZ-58 is hard to beat (along with ammo) and for that price I could get a CZ SP-01 Tactical to go with it, then I just need a Czech made shotgun and I would be complete.

How does the recoil and rise of the VZ-58 (with and without muzzle brake) compare to that of a 5.56mm black rifle?

I do not care about being ultra-competitive as I plan on doing 3 Gun for fun so as long as it is decently competitive thats cool.

Thanx in advance

I am pretty sure I read here (somewhere!) that one CGN'er used it for Tac Response's Fighting Rifle course last year in Abbotsford. If it can run 2000+ rounds in 2 days and last then hey... why not!

Regards,

Iam new to shooting sports whats 3 gun?

It is the most fun you can have with a gun with your clothes on!

Back to the point at hand.

Can you use a VZ for a three gun match?

Yes..

As a matter of fact here is a pic of our very own Silentguy shooting his at last years 3 gun match in Ottawa ( EOHC).

That said I do not believe that it is the "best" for three gun due to the mag release system. With an AR platform you can drop the mag with your right index finger while getting the replacment with your left hand.

With the VZ and other AK like mag catches ( SIG included) you must remove the mag with your weak hand then get your replacment.

Does that mean you would not have fun with a VZ? Hell NO!

I am thinking of using my GARAND at the EESA match next month just for ####s and giggles!

I have found mag changes are hard with my VZ because part of the trigger guard gets in the way of the latch, so i will probably dremel away the culprit.

thats what i did to mine. way better. the original vz58 didn't have that extra bit to bugger up mag changes.

As for the VZ58 mak release issue, I've seen a mag catch mod that has an extension so you can mainipulate it with your trigger finger. Simple modifaction really.

Can it be used , you bet .
At our 3 guns no ranges are that great ( 100 yard max ) most shots are close up and if you are going to put out that kind of cash on a restricted rifle IMO find a little more and go for a Storm or other pistol carbine .
Or , get the non restricted vz58 and now it has many more uses .
just my 2 cents

I more prefer vz 58 than AR or next rifles with 5,56 bullets. When you shoot on longer range at the plates or steel targets you can be sure that every time (when you hit of course) its fall down, with 5,56 I am not so sure. It is my own experience.
