I have had either an 858 or a 58 for years but it always surprises me how light and simple these little rifles are. Many people who shoot them turn their noses up at the M-14, AR's and other rifles because the VZ is just so light and has so few parts yet shoots an excellent and cheap cartridge. Perhaps this rifle has been under appreciated. What thinks you?
 
I don't know if it has been under appreciated. I myself have been through 3 CZ-858's and 1 VZ58. I certainly appreciate them.

I think people wish these were AK47's and just figure if I can't have an AK, than I'm not going to get either.

I will let others chime in as I'm not the best person to be explaining what I don't know. :D
 
I think they are very much appreciated here in the People's Republic of Kanada. I think that they are under appreciated in the USA where they have much more choice.

I just came home with the newest member of my family, uh huh, you guessed it, my new CSA vz 58 sporter, absolutely love it, your right, light, simple, I can't wait to put some rounds thu it. Cheers!!!
 
Its definitely a fun gun, very simple, compact. I love mine.
I think I'll more than likely buy another 858 or 58, before I'd spend money on an AR. But that's my opinion.
 
I love the CZ platform of rifles. Have to be one of my favourite. Just so easy to teach new shooters on them too. Easy to break down, clean, re assymble and shoot cheap ammo. Not as mnay accessories for them as AR's and such but still a neat toy to play around with. I currently have 7 different cz/vz/csa or whatever the hell you wanna call them in the stable and ALL of them get used. I have had rifles sit in my cabinet for months and I always seem to bring one or a few CZ's with me over other style rifles.
 
I love my folding stock Cz858. Light, slim, very simple in it's operation, 7.62mm punch and non-restricted! My biggest gripe is the non chrome lined barrel. For a rifle chambered in a caliber with so much corrosive ammo floating around, I just don't get why Cz would not chrome line it. It's not the end of the world I know but even my three SKS's are chrome lined for crying out loud. Still love it though, would by another in a heartbeat if they brought out a chrome lined one.
 
Even though the VZ58 is superior, most people in America opt for the AK47.

The VZ58 is Canada's special gun.
 
The one thing I've never been able to wrap my head around is those pencil thin barrels...even with 5 rd mags the ones I've shot heat up like crazy within 5 mags, I can only imagine the burning smells that would come off that rifle after a couple 30 rounders

The VZ58 is far superior to the AK. I have shot both, the Model 58 wins hands down.

The VZ58 is special in Canada as it's the nearest thing to an AK that we can legally have, I think that's why a lot of people do their best to dress it up to look even more like an AK.
Why anyone would dress up a superior rifle to look like an inferior rifle is a mystery that I can't really explain, I can only guess they don't know the AK is not as good.

Just picked up a CSA VZ 58 sporter in 5.56 last weekend and must say I just love it.Had been ogling it for months but did more or less decide to buy it on a whim and thus far no buyers remorse. So far I've put 100 rounds down range with this rifle and I'm pretty disappointed with accuracy but hoping a different ammo and eventually my own reloads will remedy that. I love the look of these rifles and mine is gonna be staying stock except for a few beneficial mods like mag well adapter(done)muzzle break and a side mounted rail system+sight.They seem to be popular enough at my local range and I can see why. Cheers to my fellow Czech rifle owners.
