VZ-58 Perfect Simplicity and lightness?

I think they're very well appreciated here in Canada, I love my bone stock 858.

With that said, if we could own AK's, I probably wouldn't have an 858. I realize it's a better rifle, but Chinese Polytech AK's are rifles that I absolutely love and would be spending a lot of money on collecting and shooting those instead.

But, our previous governments decided that I would kill babies if I owned those, so I went the 858 and I am really not disappointed.

Lol. So much denial in the thread. Can you honestly say if you were allowed to legally buy a AK right now, you wouldn't? I'd have at least 3. I'm not saying its a better rifle, I've never even seen one in person. But it's arguably the most prolific rifle of all time. And its reliability is proven in just about every war since Vietnam.
That said, I absolutely love my 858 and I would still own one even if I could get a AK. There is a few things I like about it that the AK dosent have. I like how the bolt holds open after the last shot. I like the position of be charging handle, it's so much easier to reach over the top and just slap it to chamber a round. It's funny, I've seen quite a few videos of Canadians shooting the 858, and they still reach under it to work the charging handle like its a AK. And the safety seems to be much easier to use, I like how I know wether it on or off just by putting my hand on the grip.
I would love to see a vz58/cz858 put through a torture test. I wounder how close the reliability is to a AK.

I really don't know why people go on about AK's all the time, the fact is they can't have one no matter what! It's time to stop posting about if you could have one and get a grip. LOL

I've put close to 700 rounds through my 858 and haven't had the gremlin, nor has anyone else I've let shoot that rifle.

How are you pulling the trigger to get this to happen?

I find that by resting the rifle on sandbags, and squeezing (not pulling) the trigger very gently/slowly like a target rifle will cause it to "gremlin".

My first black rifle was a VZ and I DID do it up as much as possible. It was an excellent gun but I found it heavy... I know, im probably the only one and i know part of it was the accessorie stuff on it. With that said, I loved it and still do and WILL buy another one, this time with the magwell installed.

I have owned a number of SKS's as well (currently one one). I keep an SKS around just so I have something to shoot cheap 7.62 with. While I do like the SKS and I like that it cheap, the safe NEEDS a VS58 so ill likely start saving, sell the sks and buy another VZ for my 7.62 gun.

I HAVE held and shot 3 or 4 AKs in just the past year alone. All were chambered in 7.62 (I have fired one chamberd in .223 as well) and after putting a few hundreds rounds through them I can definitely say it is a far less refined gun than the VZ. Its clunky and loud (not the boom, but the action). Operating the controls are akward and in general, it feels cheap. I get that they are pretty bullet proof, but honestly, id take VZ ANY DAY over an AK. Now, if I had the choice between a cheap AK and a cheap SKS, id take the AK. Superior ergonomics IMO. But the AK isnt the gun the VZ is. All this being said, ive only owned a VZ, not an 858 so I cant comment on gremlin issues... I do know for sure im not a fan of the AK. I dont care how iconic it is... I buy guns to shoot them, not show them off. The VZ shoots better.

I sold my ARs and got a pair of 858's which I hit up with the NEA meal deal. Corwin Arms has likely the best selection of gear for them (when you guys aren't cleaning Martin out) anywhere. His 4-mags-for-$98 deal get you set up pretty quick and the upgrade to polymer is pretty affordable too. I also like that a parts kit is $100 for damned near everything one might need to fix on the rifle.

I have 2 sks, and a vz 58, in 7.62x39. I think its a great combo for most, common ammo, simple firearms, very reliable, and great fun. Can hunt with them, vz is very light. I don't see anything wrong with that combo.

been through 5 CZ/CSA models and still have 3. the lastest is in the mail right now!!!

As for the gremlin I found I could get it on most non tabbed carriers but NOT if I pulled up on the leaf spring a bit. flawless if the leaf spring is driving up hard.

Love the gun and feel it is superior to the AK after having shot quite a few AK's for a few thou rounds. Even a nice arsenal. My main reason being that the CZ/VZ has taken a few shortfalls of the AK and fixed them up. The open top, the weight, the milled receiver and improved ergos make it just a bit more usable.

that said I'd likely own 3 AK's if I could and will WHEN we can again.

I have 2 AR's and a 858
Honestly both AR's out shoot the 858 and that could just be me because im more used to the AR platform but I do like the AR better as a weapon system.
AR's have alot more options for upgrades, personally find them much easier to take apart and the cartridges dont fly everywhere.

It could also be the ammo...people forget that shooting 70s/80s era MASS PRODUCED SURPLUS AMMO...out a semi automatic chrome lined barrel gun just MAY be the reason for its lack of being able to punch one holed groups. Add in a short sight radius and so on.

Shoot some mid level quality ammo...like MFS or S&B hunting loads out of a random rest and you will be surprised what they can do.

Went out shooting with a buddy and he brought his 858. 250 yards, and with a simple red dot site he hit a 6 inch gong without any issues. This was with surplus ammo and prone position. Impressed with the rifle as it shot good for what it was designed for.

I just ordered a vz 58 with the m4 stock in 7.62x39. I was really conflicted between this and the exact rifle in .223 which I could add a mag well adapter too. In the end, I like the 7.62 caliber a lot more, and I dont really like the idea of a plastic mag well anyway.
