VZ 58 problems and suggestions

Hi CGN,

I have tried to not post this as to not add to the bad press on these guns but getting very frustrated. I bought this gun and put less than 100 rounds in it and the Bolt broke. Sent back for warrantee to North Silva and over a month later I get it back. Finally get out to shoot it again and now the carrier is cracked and evidence of some where areas on the new bolt. The frame of the gun appears to have the normal where dents for the most part.

This gun has less that 300 rounds through it total. I feel that the safety of this firearm maybe compromised. What do I do? See if I can find a new carrier and see if that is the problem or do I send it back to North Silva for a few months+ and go through this all over again. I have very little free time with my 2 young kids and work all I want is to be able to go use this thing once in a while and not have it break every use.

Looking for suggestions. Probably back to North Silva it goes:mad:
 
Is it a .223 or an X39 ?

I have a .223 CSA that has been back for repairs, so far everything is great, but I would not buy another CSA. I also have two CZ 858's which have had no problems, one of which has had over two thousand rounds down the pipe. The finish is also far superior.
 
Could it be that the carrier was already cracked when your bolt broke and you just didn't notice? I've had my CSA 7.62x39 for about 3 years now and it has been flawless. Never heard of any real issues with them other than the 5.56/223 version.
 
Just adding to the CSA bad press!!!!! Mine has been sent back to North Sylva once for a replacement bolt, they sent new bolt no problem . Then low and behold the new bolt cracked along the slot where the ejector travels. called NS they told me to send it to movie armment group for warenty. When i talked to them they had a stack of THEM IN 5.56MM AND TOLD ME THAT THERE WERE APPROX 500 GUNS THAT CSA SENT OUT COMPLETLY SCREWED UP. and they said that there are way more than 500 by running the numbers. Problems with the gas system bolts and pins and reciever hardening etc, Still waiting for them to assess my rifle and contact me with my options and if not repairable I will fight for money or a replacement rifle. All I want also is a reliable carbine might have to buy a mini 14 again LOL. Dirtdiver1 Cheers
 
My x39 CSA bolt failed as well, in the process took out the carrier. I didn't want to wait months for warranty work so I just ponied up the cash for replacement parts. My CSA in 556 was flawless over 2000 rounds, less than 300 in my x39 and it failed. I'm done with CSA, when is the next shipment of CZ858s coming in??

I read that the CSA are great guns and picked one up too in 7.62x39.

Sunday I had my first broken part. Minor in comparison to you guys. My receiver pin sheard off on the left side. I am trying to get parts under warranty for it. The company I purchased from is helping me track down warranty parts.

This was to be, and hopefully still will be, my go to gun. And possibly my shtf gun if things get real bad. Reading posts like this make me think twice before stocking anything ( ammo/mags ) if there are issues like this floating around.
 
My rifle has been sent back. I am hoping maybe they will give me a new one but likley in a few months I will get back my old one with a new carrier. Not giving up yet as I really enjoyed shooting the 300 rounds so far. If it breaks again, this may be a different story. I am looking for a CZ858 as I think CSA are not producing the quality and milspec parts that the CZ had. Just my opinion from the people I have talked to.

Apparently CSA allowed a large # of these rifles that were produced with poor tempering of the metal parts ie bolts etc. Again this is third party info. All I want is a reliable rifle for the $1000 I spent. I was concerned about one of my D-model SKS's as I had put a few thousand rounds through it and the gun was showing some signs of wear. Now after seeing the issues with the VZ thinking the SKS's is indestructible.
 
Did you happen to get the version with chrome lined barrel by any chance? Just wondering whether you might have bought one that was on the shelf for a while and the new ones (like the chrome lined) are possibly of better quality. It sounds like there are "500" problem VZ 58s - are they the new ones, or ones made a while ago that are still on shelves and therefore the ones made after the "500" are okay?

Not sure but I have heard of the magic 500 before. Still waiting for it to come back. I was hoping to take it on my hunting trip but probably no dice. I bought a CZ 858 in the mean time and waiting to fire it. Hope it holds togeather better than my VZ.
 
You would know if you had the chrome lined barrel version, since they only made like 50 of them for this year, and it's about $150 more expensive than a regular one. Very few shops had them advertised, and when they did they made sure to advertise the fact that it was a chrome lined barrel.

I am talking about the non-restricted version of course.
 
Well Got my gun back. They replaced the bolt again, replaced the carrier, shortened my gas piston very slightly and increased the size of my gas release ports on my gas block. I have not fired it yet but they claim 25 rounds were fired and all is good. Movie Armaments parently know there stuff according to the shop I purchased the rifle. Hope to shoot it in the next week or so while hunting and will report back.
 
I find it funny that "assembled from a bunch of old parts" CZ858s are far superior to new made CSAs. We only had to deal with the "Gremlin" and that was an easy fix.
 
I also just got mine back from movie armaments. They were great to deal with.

I got new bolt and new piston.

I will see how it works now.

Not overly impressed with these issues on a $900 rifle though.
 
Can you guys check out the year of your guns that have had issues. The year of the gun is beside the Czech Lion on the gun. Mine would be 2013. CZ guns will have this same thing as well as Brno.



Jablunka, which is where CSA Vz 58s are made, is a small village of less than 1500 people and close to the boarder of Slovakia. Generally, Czechs located closer to Central Europe like Germany were the "thinkers" of Czech Republic and are excellent engineers. Czechs located near the Slovakian boarder, with the exception of South Moravia, are a bunch of knuckle draggers. CSA only has a village of 1500 people to hire from and its easy to hire idiots and hard to find good workers.

I'm not impressed with these issues either as I only just got a NR .223 Vz 58. I have 300 rounds though mine without a single issue.
