Hello. I'm hoping the experts here can help me out. I'm considering buying a VZ-58 non-restricted. Could you please comment on the overall build quality, reliability, accuracy, and...? I'm under the impression if its built by CZ that its going to be good. The other question is caliber as they are available in 7.62x38 and 5.56 Nato.

Cheers. Steve.

Steve,
If you look over in the Red Rifles forum area,

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=129

you'll find more info than you can possibly digest in a lifetime on the VZ-58, CZ-858 and all variants. Also all the modifications, customizations, scope mounting methods, etc.

Personally, I own two CZ-858's (non-restricted) and one VZ-58 (restricted), and I've had a whale of a good time with them. Lots of cheap east bloc surplus 7.62x39 ammo out there. The quality of all three of mine is excellent - and I've had them and used them for several years.

Also own a Norc. M4 - it's fun, too, even if the ammo costs a bit more. ;)
