I am looking at mounting a M4 type stock on my VZ-58, which currently has the stock folder. I am wondering if the M4 type stock will be longer when fully expanded that the stock folder, as I find the folder on the short side.

Also do you just require the M4 stock adapter, M4 Stock, and receiver extension buffer tube, or is there something else I need?

Thanx in advance

I would think so. I have no experience with the M4 style stock on the VZ-58, but I do have an "M4" style rifle and a VZ-58 style rifle, and I can tell you that the VZ-58 folding stock is only about as long as the second shortest position on the M4 stock.

The only way the M4 stock would not be any longer was if it was not adjustable, which would seem to defeat the purpose of the whole design of that stock. Here is a picture side-by-side:

All mil-spec & most comercial buffer tube's are the same length. That is one of the reason's why I went with the FAB's reduce re-coil M4 stock adaptor. As seen here;

With the Rauch Tactical MultiHeight stock adapter you have ~12"-15.5" LOP of stock adjustment to play with. This can change slightly depending on the actual stock you choose. The factory unit is about 12.5" long for comparison. The other upside is that the stock is inline with the barrel at any setting.

Thanks for all the input. I was looking at the Rauch Tactical MultiHeight stock adapter was what I was thinking of and either a Magpul CTR or MOE stock.

The Magpul CTR and MOE stocks come in Commercial-spec and Mil-spec models. Does it matter which ones are used with the Rauch adapter plates? I do not own an AR and am unfamiliar with the parts assembly. I would think it would'nt matter for a VZ58, but maybe having the Commercial-spec version would be better because you could mount it on a Commercial AR as well if you changed stocks again later.

The adapter is inline with the bore.

RE which stock will fit. Its only important that you match the stock to the buffer tube you buy. So if you buy an commercial spec stock then buy a commercial spec buffer tube. The threading on both specs is the same so both types of stock will work with our adapter.

I must be losing it...when I lay a straight edge on my monitor along the barrel, I swear it looks angled by a degree or two. Not that it would make much of a difference...but now I am confused as to why it looks this way to me.

As much as I love NEA gear, I think that stock adapter will sell faster if it's slimmed down some.

I just can't quite get past my aesthetic objections to it...I have been thinking about getting one and taking a belt sander to it to slim it down. But would I be taking off a hard-anodized surface or anything by doing so?

I know it's a gun part, and I'm sure it works...I just can't quite get by the "black brick on my gun" effect.

It will be slimmed down when they go back on the machines in the fall.

If you knock the ears off its actually quite slim. What will make you love it will be the cantelever mount.

Have a look at posts by Neit Designs, his most recent pics show one he knocked the ears off of.

I like my girls skinny.. ;) And dirty, covered in oil & hit with a grinder..

.. I mean.

Does anyone make a stock adapter/extender for the standard military VZ58 stock, which would allow you to mount aftermarket AR sights? I like the ergonomics of the original stock, but would also like to mount better sights to the rear. And adding a couple inches to the lenth of pull wouldn't hurt anything.
