Two questions I've been wondering about since getting the VZ-58.

One: Has anyone lengthened one of the standard steel folding stocks? If so, how, and how did it work out? Mine seems to have been made for a munchkin.
Before I take the welder to it, I thought it would be prudent to ask the experts.

Two: Anyone ever tried lengthening one of the "chipboard" composite stocks. I ask because I've inherited one that was sawn in two, about 2" behind the mounting bolt. (Previous owner was mounting a folder, had difficulty with removing bolt. Oops). A couple of steel pins, some epoxy, and insert a wooden plug to give the desired length? Sand to profile and paint?

Three: I wonder if it would be possible to put a steel plate between the stock mount and the receiver, made in such a way that a piece would stick up enough to allow mounting an adjustable peep rear sight, like those sold by Williams and used on various military & target rifles. Since a sight like that is physically small, it should be possible to mount it in such a way that it does not interfere with removing the rear receiver cover.

Just some idle thoughts from a -58 noob.

Please feel free to laugh. :D

munchkin !!! :D , hardly , most commie makes their stock small bcos it compensate for their thick winter coat (so i heard) .

a welder would make me :( .

1 & 3 . you got part of your answer . why not make the peep sight block thicker , like an inch which would add an inch to the folders length ofcos held in by a longer bolt .

2. if you are at all handy with wood then i would make a longer stock from scratch or adapt a longer stock . VZ stock is easy to make bcos it is generally flat , you can also add a cheek rest .

It can be done, I had a folding stock that was lengthened but sold it last year.

This is a very good idea. I don't see how it would hinder the removal of the reciever cover as long as it does not extend over the top of it.

This is why I love Gunnutz. Yes, 1&3 do combine very nicely. In fact, it would be even easier to make an insert block with a peep mounted on it than to make a plate. A longer bolt should not be an insurmountable issue.

Someone I talked to at work suggested a reaallllyyyyy thick rubber recoil pad for the folding stock. I'm sure that would do wonders for balance.

As far as making a new stock, I'm considering that. I'm also considering making an adapter for a AR-style collapsible folder. (It's been done before, I'm sure).

If you are handy I would suggest an adapter that uses a2 sight parts and fits between stock and receiver that would give you an extarinch and sweet sights although admitedly would be very ugly
