I shot my VZ ALL day long on private property... No police, also shoot my 308 off top of pig pen into the field... my 1k range lawl. No cops. All legal...
I think I would go for the T97 despite the ergos are too awkward for me
I like the fact that the T97 can take Stanag and lar 15 mags, and if you purchased the FTU, it is easy to mount optics
And I'm also a sucker for bullpups but that's just me
However if you like the 7.62 cartridge, then by all means go for the VZ 58
There is no province-wide caliber limitation, but they can vary by municipality, and are a legitimate concern to be aware of. Check the by-laws for the specific area where you want to shoot.
Caledon for example has a limit of 0.275 caliber for rifles and 12Ga for shotguns. It's worded like this:
"(a) the owner of land that is zoned and used for agricultural purposes, the spouse of such owner, or any child of such owner over the age of 16 years, may discharge, within the boundaries of the land owned by him or her, a rifle having a calibre no greater that 0.275
or a 12gauge shotgun"
I chose the VZ58 over the T97 and I don't regret it.
7.62x39 milsurp is cheaper than 5.56x45 milsurp.
There are more custom parts for the VZ.
Being in Saskatchewan, I can't hunt with any caliber below .24, so the option is there with the VZ.
Aesthetically, I want an AK but can't have one, this is close enough for me unless the laws change .
I don't have to purchase a $300 FTU that requires me to permanently alter the firearm (cut sights off) to put a red dot on it. Those carry handle mount rails look ridiculous on a T97, never mind the fact you're lifting your head off the firearm to look through the sites. I also get to keep my iron sights.
I liked the "feel" of the VZ over the T97. Nothing wrong with bull-pups, I love the Tavor, just didn't like the T97.
