Does anyone have any up for sale (used)?

Would love to buy from ironwood, but I don't understand what "comes with no hardware" means, and i'm not really the best person at putting things together or staining/painting, etc. Would love to buy a ready to go used one.

Have had no luck in EE over last weeks. :(

I believe between Dlask and Wolverine, you may be able to find all the hardware you need. Grip screw, upper handguard heat shield, buttplate, etc. Finding used sets are a bit tougher - especially with hardware. If you're going to buy a set, buy the complete wood set. Buying piece by piece will leave you forever hunting the upper handguard.

I have the full wood on mine and was thinking of selling it... But it's too nice to let go.

Buy Ironwood Designs wood and find the hardware on the EE, Ebay (I see sets on there) or a sponsor. IWD wood is brand new and absolutely gorgeous. Some people are asking outrageous money for surplus wood on the EE.

You are asking what the hardware is, it's pictured here:

You can get a chipboard set on ebay with all the hardwear sub 100$. Save the hardwear and use it for almost a full beach set you can get at dlask for under 100$.... In the end It may hurt your wallet less..... The chipboard looks awesome in person, I always wanted a beach but the chipboard is stronger and easyer to take care of, A few coats of BLO and shellac and it looks like new, I believe the chipboard was made because the original beach would crack with to much heat.

Dlask has only 2 of the necessary 4 wood pieces and those 2 will cost you $90, most likely surplus mismatched. Unsure if anyone's tried to stain 4 different colour wood pieces to come out the same... most of the time it's a futile task. There's a set of surplus wood on Ebay for $195 and beaver barf stock w/hardware for $43.

At least with IWD you get 4 new pieces from the same block of wood for $200 US, which seems to be less than people are asking in the EE for their wood. About 4 years ago I got a walnut set from them for $225 US.

I was hoping to find really good points in this specific thread, but failed. I'm one of those who is currently selling unwanted wooden set for outrageous price. I was looking really hard to get couple of such sets, but seems like there were no any at affordable price. Some site sponsors were selling them awhile ago for a good price, but I missed and was tired to wait for new batch, if it ever comes. So, ebay and other expensive sources eventually was my choice. Now, some people have provided some attractable examples. It all looks like they are timeshare salesmen, where their numbers must be multiplied x2 to get real cost.

First of all, we are in Canada, eh? Don't go to ebay.com, but ebay.ca, where the prices are converted to CAD with shipping, so those sample items (wood and hardware) will run for 275 and 75 CAD appropriately. Latter one will likely sneak through the border without duties, but former one will likely add another 20 cad as per my own experience. Not to mention it might stuck for many weeks as it will be recognized as firearm parts and sent to the lab, but that's another story. Oh, and the hardware is still missing pistol grip bolt. You may buy one in hardware store, but hex bolt looks goofy on the firearm. So that original bolt costs 30 cad on ebay, but you can get the "deal" at DLASK for 20 cad with taxes and shipping. So, we already run close to 400 cad following the provided advises. Now, hardcore VZ fans (like me) might need a bayo with wooden handle. 100 cad on ebay. But you need to refinish the whole set to make the color matching. And don't bet on the quality of 60 years old surplus wood - you likely will need to refinish it anyways. Add 50 cad for materials and not include your time and risk of wasting the wood - the whole set with bayo will end up in 550 cad. I'm selling refinished set for 450 CAD (did not like the color after all). Am I unreasonable? Now, working on another set, I think I'd rather go with IronWood, since it still does not come out as I would like to. Ironwood will be even more costly, so it will come to around 600 cad with all other conditions being equal.

Wasn't calling you out as I don't think I even saw your ad, but it seems you came right after me.

I bought absolutely gorgeous Walnut furniture from IWD, for $240 US shipped for upgraded Walnut (no issues at customs or duties/taxes). I had the hardware and finished it to my liking. It was superb, but ending up selling the whole rifle when guys were salivating over it at the range. Got my money back and then some. IWD gives you an option for a beefier L/handguard and a longer pistol grip, free upgrades. After selling the IWD furniture and owning 4 surplus sets (UHG never matches the rest of the pieces), I can say that IWD furniture is far superior to the surplus. It's worth the money, converted into CDN and the ability for the upgrades and finishing to your specs.

There are other options out there and I was helping the OP with it. If he wants your expensive surplus wood, he's welcome to it and you are welcome to bump your ad again if you wish. Last year I had 4 sets that I refinished (spent days on each), paid good money for them and ended up selling 3 sets at a loss on the EE. You won't get your money back at that price when you can get brand new custom sets (sanded, stain as desired) from the same block of wood, for $200 US at IWD. I looked into the bayo and didn't want one that wouldn't match and have to drill out the wood handles to refinish. I could have purchased a wood bayo for $40 last year when I bought one of the wood sets, didn't want it.

Good luck OP in your search for nice wood.

Good luck OP in your search for nice wood.

IWD has slightly increased their prices and in the same time CAD significantly went down. So their bare wood set will now cost 350CAD shipped. As per above the hardware will add another 80 CAD. May be the UHG metal shield also be needed for some projects (if move from tactical furniture). So, unfinished set will cost well above 400 CAD no matter how high you can jump. And yet it will require a woodworking, which is discouraging fact for many. Surplus is still cheaper, but yes, its slowly getting to the price point of new production. But most people are just pure consumers. They need a product which at most is ready snap on, clamp on, screw on, click on with IKEA type of instructions - even that is too difficult for some. I see some people just got scared to buy fully complete and refinished kit of me, not because of the price but because still some minor fitting may be required. Oh well, first world problems.

I think I will eventually go with IWD, selling another surplus I got. Seems like I just got a buyer. Fingers crossed.

Need. Midol.

Your prices are way out of wack, and you are playing the what if card past it's "best before" date.

For one, the pistol grip bolt is NEVER seen.... Who cares if you get it at home depot?

Second, it won't be stuck in customs just because it's firearm related, it's before the export dollar value and doesn't matter, at all. It's not a receiver or something major, it's a bunch of wood.

Wow dude.... If you want to ask crazy prices that's your prerogative, but don't try to justify it with fear about how much "you could" spend if everything went wrong and the planet's aligned just right

In your bright world, what is the price this set is normally selling for?

I thought this site serves people to exchange their experience and get some good advises. One dude here has provided his fond memories where those kits were kicking around for cheap and dollar was on the par. No longer the case - was my point based on my own recent experience.

If you are selling such kit for better price or have some plausible source of it - please let us all know. Until then let me increment the counter of useless posts by 1.

If I was going to buy a wood set for my VZ58, I would get it from Ironwood Designs in US funds. It's a far superior product hands down over the surplus wood. Take that at face value, it was meant to help the OP not to start a debate. I find the wood is thicker all around (especially the UHG and LHG) therefore making them stronger. The longer and thicker PG is also very handy. The ability to have it 'naked' wood and the choice to stain/finish to your liking really called to me, as I like doing those things. Also the fact that they are willing to make it from other exotic and easier stained, hardwoods makes them even better, if you are willing to pay more.

We have created a new US made, accurate reproduction VZ58 stock set. Small changes were made to improve the original VZ design. All parts were made a little thicker, as the original VZ parts are very slight in build. The lower hand guard was made .1” thicker overall, to add more strength and size. We also made an optional extended length pistol grip, ( 3/8” longer - no extra charge), to improve the ergonomics. More details listed below.

Agree, IWD is the best. I don't mind high price and lots of time to be spent on finishing. I do it for my own anyways.

Although, this info does not help OP. It was clearly stated that he wants something ready to go, and IWD is not an option. I belive he might already have bought used and well worn surplus wood from ee (at least I have seen it sold at the time of this thread runnung). Only 3 pieces of woid, No UHG, which is actually the most wanted bit. Not sure if it would be possible to match the finish even if having luck getting that part separately.

Here's what surplus wood looks like on my Vz (to help OP compare with IWD):
3BNxuIk.jpg

Here's a well used set I bought from Ebay last year for $130 US and refinished (almost cried when I saw the condition), sold it for $90 as shown on the EE:
VZ58%20old%20wood_zpsuz0shevh.png

Think I paid $90 for this mismatched surplus wood on the EE and was able to match it pretty good when I refinished, sold it for $130:
vz58woodfixed_zpseb87351a.jpg

My very best surplus set (came out the nicest, can't find the pics), I paid $130 for it on the EE and sold it for $225 with brand new hardware that came with the beat up set.

Here's the surplus set I bought and refinished on the EE last fall, cost me $140 shipped (thought that was top dollar for surplus wood). Bought the extended pistol grip on Ebay for $29 and tried to match it as best as I could. Happy with what I have... These sets didn't look like this when I bought them, needed a lot of work. Every set needed minor fitting except for the beat up used set which fit like a glove as is. Just wasn't happy with the wood fill, dents and marks all over it.

What the stuff costs today, is what someone is willing to pay for them. There gets a point where it's not worth it and you pay the premium for the best product on the market (IWD), then acquire the hardware elsewhere. I was looking for Mossberg 500 wood on the EE, everyone wanted $100 for their beat up wood... finally found a guy with some spare wood sets and got 5 sets for $130! The old cheap wood turned into this:

Good deals are out there, just have to look and be patient.

Surplus wood is still available and not that hard to find. I have several sources that can get me wood at alot less then what you are selling it for.
I don't want/use the surplus wood as I like to clone and toy around with almost every single firearm I own.

Looks like sometimes you buy/sell wooden things for profit, adding a value for refinished wood. And it looks not a big markup (if any). Are you accepting orders? How much would it be? I did refinish few sets for my self, it came out really nice, I can do it, but toooooo much time spent. Or what is the market price for such labor, you think? I guess I can better work couple extra hours at my regular work to cover the cost, rather than spending weeks for the whole process of refinishing. Seems like you have a fun working on wood, do you?
