vz-58s/858 how many rounds have you guys gone through so far?

1120 Rds first Shooting

Spent the day breaking it in and getting over the giggle factor have put another 400 through since with a folder all surplus and haven't had a problem.

It's my understanding that the cz should last at least 15,000 rounds. It's an estimate only but it seems reasonable. I doubt you will have many problems with the cz-858. I have an SKS that i've had for about 12 or 13 years that has over 10,000 rounds on it. During most of my college years it was the only rifle that I had (aside from a 10/22). I haven't had any problems with it yet. I never seem to get tired of firing cheap 7.62 ammo at beer cans, propane bottles, watermelons and tree stumps.

mmm...... propane and propane accessories :sniper: = booom!

damn.. nice.
you using the corrosive stuff?

This could get interesting.

Yes all of it Czech ammo, why would this be interesting?? All gas affected parts are chromed for a reason, as is the bolt and barrel. It is a military firearm designed to shoot corrosive ammo,I have yet to have any rust on it other than the POS flash hider/break I put on it for a while.
If it was going to fall apart due to shooting corrosive ammo, well I guess we wouldn't have any MG34.42, Mausers,Lee Enfields, garands, Moisin Nagants, etc left over from WW2 would we. :)

I've had mine for just over 2 months and I just finished off the first case on Saturday. I haven't had any problems so far.

Now that I've gotten my rocks off with this baby I suspect that the second case will last much longer.

The same for me. The first crate was melted away quicker than I'd have liked, but my second crate hasn't even had the seal broken yet.

I've done about 800 or so in a little over a month, going to get my next box asap. No issues with the riffle. The only issue i have had is one of my mags came used, and has a weak spring. Any feed issues have come from this mag. If i don't use it, no issues AT ALL. Very pleased.

After corrosive shooting I alway have tea since I have to boil the kettle anyways. I pour a full kettle of water down the bore (made up a modified spent brass and a funnel that I saw here) and rinse all disassembled parts in boiling water. Copper comes off after much easier when the barrel is clean as well. I haven't had any of my firearms rust due to ammo. Just have to know how to clean them (and clean right away, not next week!)

I just put 250 rounds through my new U.S.A. made prototype.
I wouldn't recommend waiting that long between cleanings with corrosive ammo on an 858 the non chrome lined bores corrode fast, but the chrome can handle it just fine.

I've had a touch of rust in the chamber, but its extremely mild. The barrel is still quite fresh. I have cleaned it within an hour and 15 minutes of shooting everytime, except for a few times where I let it slip 3 or 4 hours.

It's a bloody Czech assault rifle inspired rifle though. If you ever scratch it or get a touch of rust here or there, so what?

Its interesting because I thought you were going to back up what I said in another thread and what a few other people have said as well, and you have. I have shot quite a bit of corrosive too, not your amount but 500 rounds and waited a good couple weeks to clean my rifle and no problems at all! Other than it smells kinda funky, people freak out about corrosive.

Anyways, I just ordered my .58 from marstar, faxed them an order today as I couldn't call them in time on friday and I leave for cuba for a week tonight. Ordered 4 more mags and a muzzle break, should be a ####load of fun when I get it.
After its been proven, I'll probably strip the paint and do some black bedliner or engine paint for the mags and rifle.

A stripped gun and a new coating would look awesome.
I personally would like to see a VZ in the darkest black possible...none of this shades of gray.

The only downside, is doing it right isn't cheap. And these guns are.

I just did mine last week and it is black as boots lol. It cost me a can of Krylon and a few sheets of water sand paper....cheap.

I polished the end of the mag as well.

Pushing over 1000rds in mine w/o a single FTF or FTE.

As Reaper said, I only seen rust on my Muzzle and FH, I have not cleaned it in over 800rds and 2 range trips.

I got my CZ 858-2 from the first batch that came into Canada, so I don't have the chrome lined barrel.

My advise: Make sure you buy one with a chrome lined barrel. And I think the life of that rifle is way more than 15 000 rounds. You may experience a bit of decreasing in accuracy after 15K but will still do the job.
