VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

So the Czechs went back into time, precisely 1958, to create a rifle to bypass the spirit of a 1995 law. Wow - those creative gun makers.

The failed federal long-gun registry has had many pernicious side
effects. It has painted an unfair picture of honest gun owners as
somehow responsible for violent crimes, while real gangsters wield and
use illegally obtained guns, with impunity. The registry has diverted
more than $1 billion that could have been better spent cracking down on
gun smuggling.

More, the registry has polarized the political debate in such a fashion
that rational discussion about guns is almost impossible. It is
difficult today to weigh calmly which weapons should be legally licensed
and which prohibited. This is problematic if policy-makers want to
adapt, as they should, our gun licensing regime to a constantly changing
marketplace, in which creative gunmakers modify their wares to get past
regulations.

It makes sense that handgun restrictions would allow room for sport
target-shooters. It also makes sense, for example, to be more liberal
when it comes to single-action rifles and shotguns.

Equally, however, it seems odd to treat one form of semi-automatic
military assault rifle differently than another. We have banned access
to 65 versions of the AK-47 assault rifle for the reason that there is
little apparent use for them other than to kill lots of people in a
short time. And yet, for example, we allow for sale a similar-looking,
similar-performing Czech assault rifle.

This discrepancy is not logical. Either the weapons are too dangerous to
be available to the public or they aren't. It's hard to respect
gun-control legislation, or any legislation, that is riddled with
loopholes and inconsistencies.

The guy's got valid points....we all know that some of our gun laws make
no sense!

Guns should not be banned based on looks! .

Gotta hand it to the writer. This guy knows his craft.
First demonize by using words like terrorist and child soldier,. Then when you have the readers attention bring in the substitute.
We made a new version of this article using street racers, Honda civics and ultimately Hyundai Accents.

Just recieved my 58 and I'm worried I may never get to shoot it.

Sorry about my privious "evil" post ........I just couldn't resist.

your right they don't but looking at the "anti's" point of view they would ban everthing, and that would "make sense" to them

Took my CZ-858 to the range for the first time today. Very impressed with the performance overall. Though, not impressed with the so called force. Am not convinced of it's so called deadliness. The so called "banana magazine" did not scare my non-shooter brother enough who came with me. I think that moose guns are more powerful, so my CZ did not scare enough people. It seemed to be an average sporting/hunting firearm as per Alberta law. Just a normal gun, with a normal semi-auto action, with a normal round. Too sad. Did not scare and hype me emotionally enough to call my MP to ban it. SORRY! I wanted to trip out, but reality would not warrant that kind of irrational behavior.

My Cz does scare me!!! particularly in its effectiveness in defending me from a grizzly attack.........#### a black bear no problem.....but a grizzly.....im gonna need at least 5x 5/30rd magazines....by the way I am drunk...and the fact that I own 2 Cz858s must mean I am a menace to ####in society......yup I rule...(if I could give the thumbs down thing I would)

Well If you're a menace then I must be the antichrist  with my 5

and here we have one of my cheap AK knock offs with a military style asshult scope similar to the ones used by all those terrorists. It also has a dragunov machine gun style stock that really gives you that scary look. The horror

Palinak!!!!!
did yours come that color ?
and how did you mount the POSP ?

The colour is the same ....might seem darker in the photo.

The mount for the POSP was done by another member. The receiver is tapped and the mount is attached from the inside.

The last time I've visited this thread it was about 64 pages long so I took some time over the past few days to catch up. Having grown up in CZ, the Vzor 58 is an integral part of my childhood, as the state factory that refurbished these and other military weapons was 2km from my house. In fact, my father apprenticed there as a millwright and managed to smuggle one home, piece by piece until he had the whole thing. Eventualy, grandma passed a ruling and the fun was over.:)
The SIG and AR guys can say what they want but in the end, the best design is the simplest one that works, and hype means squat. These guns sure are a fun toy to play with and modify but I'd like to introduce another perspective here. A gun is a tool, just like a hammer or a drill. Now you may have lots of tools in your 'tool' cabinet but I dare say, If you have to have only one, the VZ58 or the Cz858 can't be beat. It may not be the best tool in every given situation, but it sure is the best single tool to have. Let's break it down:

-Need to kill a rabid fox?....VZOR
-Need to kill a deer or rabbit for food?....VZOR
-Home defense?....VZOR
-SHTF situation?....VZOR
-Fun at the range with cheap ammo?....VZOR
-Impress and influence people?:)....VZOR
-etc.

Point being, I can't think of a more reliable, multi-purpose single 'tool' to own.
Granted, if you are in the desert or other sandy area, an AK with its looser tolerances may have an edge, but in the northern climates (CZ, Canada, etc.) the VZ58 is your solution. So if you still don't have one, be responsible and do the right thing while you still can...:)
Having said all that, there are two things I would and will change. First, I shoot left and the hinge on the folding stock has bounced off of my face more than once. Second, the sights could be better. Ideally, a thinner, fiber-optic type front sight, and a rear peep like the one available for the SKS.

All right boys, I've said my piece and now it's time for a Pilsner.

Caufas,

D.
