VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

The forward grip installation was a challenge but my lathe and mill came to the rescue.......:D

muzzle brakes

Just a tip to share for those who havent figured it out-:runaway:
All the muzzle brakes I have tried on 858's have been loose fitting, they wiggle when installed. The escaping gas at the base of the bullet is different with each shot, thus stabilizing the bullet differently, with resulting affect on accuracy - larger group sizes.
Solution - wrap 10 to 13 layers of plumbers teflon tape around the treads at the end of the barrel then screw on the muzzle brake. Its now tight and your group size WILL shrink ! :D:D:D

I used a file and make muzzle brake latch to fit exactly on full turn. Latch pin itself might require shimming but thin steel piece from anti-theft magnetic marker does the job just fine if you cut it to length enough wrap it around the pin.

AHA u noticed the wandering zero and group size also !
Thought just what U did also - So I ordered another brake to do the same as u so I wouldnt have to use teflon tape - workin on it now - file, screw it on, file, screw it on, file screw it on etc etc till it fits JUST RITE AND TITE !
;) better than epoxy ! LOL
Another solution - drill and tap 3 holes at 10 , 2 , and 6 o'clock around the brake and tighten with allen screws - You can mark where the screws touch the threads and gently cut a round indent in the threads with a dremel,in either situation I think u would have to re zero after removing the brake - I have to with the teflon -

Not really. I never shot vz for groups and don't have desire to. I don't expect miracles from vz and my wife just uses it to shoot balloons and take to the bush. I just noted muzzle brake rattle and that pretty much guarantees bad groups.

Exactly. File-screw on-file again etc.

Removing front lower handguard

I picked up my CZ-858 from Wolverine at the Brandon Gun show. Got it home, found some ammo for it. Went to Poco with it, had some fun :) I need more 7.62x39.

Back to topic.
How do you remove the wood front lower handguard, I want to replace it with the black plastic one. Is it just two hex screws holding it in? Or a press fit?

I like this AR stock setup like Chopper has.

So with the 'AR adaptor' from Palinak, can one mount an Ace ARFX style stock?
http://riflestocks.com/catalog/prod... tube part (where it mounts to the reciever).
