VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

    Votes: 1,507 70.4%
  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

    Votes: 407 19.0%
  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

    Votes: 166 7.7%
  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

Anyone here use a single point sling(or 3 pt combo) on the CZ? Sorry I can't find any reference to a brand or a pictures. The leather on my factor sling dried up and broke apart and I need to replace it.

Sifted through the thread there was about 20 threads on slings but none I could find about a singpoint/3pt combo. Any details or pictures appreciated.

It is a 3 point and yep I do sell them too. :D

Wow, this is a huge thread! I guess that I should post some pics of mine!

The top is my friend's 858 and the bottom is my 58. My friend has gone for a more KISS/minimalist approach to his Vz but I have done some furniture swapping.

My IPSC 3-Gun stuff, ca. May '07. This is before I swapped furniture.

Another IPSC 3-Gun match last September. At this point, I had swapped out the handguards and pistol grip but not the buttstock.

The above pics are from a Tactical Response carbine class that I took this summer. It was one of the most fun and educational weekends of my life! Amoung the lessons learned were some about my Vz.58: a) the magazine catch is too difficult to reach, b) a good cheekweld is uncomfortable with iron sights and an AR buttstock, and c) the front sight is too hard to see.

With the help of my friend Dean Fraser (www.pistolsmith.ca) I have been further improving my Vz:

100_0392.jpg

Dean Duracoated the barrel/receiver assembly to "WWII Green" and I spraypainted most of the other components OD green. The two greens don't exactly match up, but I'm planning on camoing it furhter when the weather improves so the two different greens are probably going to be an asset.

I probably could have relieved the trigger guard myself but since Dean was working on it anyway (Duracoat) I just got him to do it.

A couple more shots of the modded trigger guard.

I drilled the holes in the upper handguard for LCF. I doubt they'll make much difference in the cooling aspect.

The Picatinny rail was added to the lower handguard by Dean. I want to add a flashlight eventually and I think that a vertical foregrip will be the easiest way to control the light. The problem with the Vz is that if a VFG is too far back the mags can't be removed/inserted but if it's too far forward (like it is in this pic) then your hand will be positioned directly under the gas exhaust ports and will get burned when you fire. I believe that I might have a solution to this, but I won't say anything until I've tried it out.

Welcomes and thanks. I guess I posted 964 times, but Dr. Lector did 256 and Palinak 244 times. Norseman is in the running with 147 and I suppose at 90 times curtton is also a lost cause too. Did I really post that many times? :p

Thanks guys, glad I could contribute to this thread!

These are some of my oldest 3-Gun pics I've been able to find. Yes, I actually did use that surplus mag pouch. It was like wearing a phone book on my hip! I think the day after that match I bought a chest rig that I'm still using.

On the topic of gear, it's really interesting to see the pics of Czech and Slovakian troops and what they're wearing/using in the field. Notice how almost all Slovakian and Czech soldiers use folding stocks? Notice how almost none use muzzle brakes or flash hiders? Wonder why that is?

Good stuff. Keep it coming.

I highly doubt you are going to see pics of just regular infantry soldiers make the internet. Any of the pics you see are of either elite dudes or done as photo ops.

welcome herk . edit your post and replace the pics by going to photobucket and click the pic first and then a list would show up , right click "IMG CODE- forums and bulletin board " and copy.

None the less, even if regular grunts were just doing a photo op they would probably still wear their normal deuce gear and weapons. I doubt they issue one web gear/rifle combo for fighting and another one for photo ops. If they do, then eastern Europe is better off financially than I've been led to believe!

ETA: curtton: thanks for the explination on how to put the pics up. I'll figure out this newfangled 'interweb' yet!
