VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

Just mount the AK mount rail as low as possible and parallel to the receiver top rail. It helps to have the scope and mount on hand to place the plate for an appropriate eye relief....I believe the side mount plate for the SKS may work the best, as it has no clearance cuts for the hammer, selector and trigger pins.

i dont like the D model anyways, i much prefer the A, and if u splurge and get high end duck bill mags instead of the crappy ones, you have detach mags too.

With all fairness, you can't compare a non D model to a VZ since duckbills are an after thought, and not part of the original concept of the weapon.

If you're in edmonton, I can probably lend it to you on the weekend, as you should only have to adjust it once, as per reasons sixty nine santa stated

Ok, I need to jump in here. The 858's as are all Communist guns blessed with oversize chambers. This is not a flaw, it is to insure that all ammo from all of the various countries that made the stuff will fit and fire.
North American ammo is made to SAMII specs and not Combloc specs.
Sorry to the Federal loving guys but Federal brass is one of the softest out there, thats not a bad thing, it actually allows this ammo to be used were more brittle brass could not be, however, even it cannot stretch to accomidate the long chambers of your 858. When you take it back they will tell you again to stop using Federal ammo, there is nothing wrong with your rifle!!

"Oversize chamber " yes, --I would also suggest you have the Headspace checked by a gunsmith , case separation usually happens with too much headspace between base of cartridge & the closed bolt with round in the chamber. Does the rest of the fired brass show any sign of "incipient case separation "( a visible ring around the brass ) , & are the primers backing out of the case ? --- Signs of excess Headspace.

It's not an 'assault weapon'. To be classified as that, it'd need to be SELECT FIRE. Since the VZ-58S/CZ858 is NOT SELECT FIRE, it's NOT AN ASSAULT WEAPON/RIFLE.

Let's get it RIGHT!

With my flame suite on and I'm not a troll, it is an AW class to the Canadian civilian market, just as the AR and the PE90, FS2000 PS90 and many more. I say AW class because they are all a castrated (semi) version of the real deal. Now the VZ-58S can be sooner classed as that than the CZ-858 since the CZ is not faithfull to the original design, compact.
Most AW's of the Warsaw Pact era were in deed designed for steel cases as they are cheaper.
Now take a select fire M14 with a 22" barrel, is that an A weapon?
Hell no, even though a SOCOM version exists, it will never be an AW since the concept basis for it's very existance is that of a rifle.
Now I finish my rant, and we should all end it here and stop the hijack since we will never all be able to agree. I am sorry for the hijack.
But the damn rifle was designed for steel cases and not brass.

Does anyone know where to get an AK side mounting plate? Sights for my CZ858.

Does anyone know where to get an AK side mounting plate? I want to use AK sights for my CZ858. I was thinking about ordering a Kobra red dot.
