VZ-58s and more...FAQs are Post 1

Q: Considering this monster thread, what do you think of the VZ-58 type rifle?

  • It is a beauty as it comes, and a must have, since it drives Libs bonkers.

  • It is best pimped out and dressed up, a far cry from an NDP convention.

  • It is true it was the first cool gun in the Cdn. market for a long while, but I'll pass.

  • It makes me think of snide remarks, as I am a gun snob and the 58 is affordable.

I shot my CZ-858 for the first time today! It didn't function very well, but I PM'd Deckard on it. Hopefully he can sort it out...I was really surprised at how much kick they have. Just as much as a .303 or 54R, and in a semi auto. I have thoughts of getting a muzzle brake now...

Yeah, but those brakes look really hard to clean. I could just plop them into the sink with the rest of my small parts when I clean with boiling water, but it'd be a major pain in the butt to get into the nooks and crannies.

Hey guys. I PM'd Deckard with a technical problem I'm having with my 858 Tactical-2. He suggested I posted here to garnish some more help.

I took the 858 shooting, and it wouldn't cycle more than 5% of the shots. The rest of them I had to #### the firing pin on.

I would load a full mag into the gun, and then slam the bolt home. I would fire the first round, and the next round would chamber fine, but the firing pin wouldn't be cocked. I would have to pull the bolt partially back for 90% of the shots to #### the firing pin.

So to clarify: It WAS chambering rounds, but when I would go to pull the trigger, nothing would happen. I would then pull the bolt partially back to #### the damn thing, then fire one round and repeat. It would occasionally go semi-auto, but it was not often. It went semi auto maybe 10 times out of the 100 shots I took.

I am sad to say I had not cleaned the gun before I shot it, though it was never shot, but cleaned by the guy who owned it before me. I was shooting czech surplus...so I hope to hell it's not the ammo's fault, because that's the only kind of ammo this thing is likely to see through it's lifetime.

Could you give me some help here? I just cleaned the whole damn thing, but I won't be able to take it out shooting again until next week possibly.

Am I up the ####creak without a paddle, since I am not the first owner? I am the first shooter of the rifle...but the rifle technically was in another person's hands before it got to me...would Wolverine still fix this problem no charge?

Great .....get all the info together .......the reason I haven't updated my web in a while, with this kind of stuff, is because we will be replacing it with a CMS app including a small forum and a photo gallery. I'm getting a lot of international emails regarding VZ58s so it will be kind a cool to have a international VZ58 community web. Decard you can be an honorary admin should you choose to do so. :D
