The VZ's are just as competitive if you practice a bit. On a recent Tactical Carbine course from SmithTac, there were users of the AR's and VZ's. They had to complete the LAPD SWAT test which includes timed skills with magazine changes... After a day of training the VZ shooters were just as fast within 1 second or less. (emergency magazine change).
It will all depend on how much you want to be proficient with it. I see a lot of guys who buy the fancy smancy Bindford 2000 Uber tech AR-15's who think they will automatically win... only to see some old coote with a lever action marlin whoop their arses.
They are all competitive... the defining factor is the user.
