So for no reason whatsoever, I'm thinking of getting a new NR barrel on my Skorpion...

Yes, I understand that the gun won't function very well as a result and will need much stronger recoil springs, but all I need is to get it out of the registry.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions for a gunsmith that can do something like this and won't give me too much of a runaround that it really won't be a functional firearm as a result?

From what I understand the barrel is pressed into the upper receiver. I'm not really eager to, but I guess I can try making the barrel myself (I'm a totally wet behind the ears as a machinist and definitely have no experience turning barrels from a blank yet but I have access to equipment and a retired master machinist/tool maker to guide me). Feel free to suggest sources of barrel blanks or old barrels that can be turned down.

Herron arms can forsure do it, others may be able to as well.

Herron arms tends to insist that the firearm be test fired after their work is done for liability reasons. I've had Ian do work for me in the past and he would be my go to for this as well if not for this basically being a non-firing gun after the modification until/if I manage to source different springs (?).

Could he not test it as is with the longer barrel installed? It might not cycle but it sure would chamber and fire to determine his work was properly done?

I could be totally wrong, but since the gun is blowback operated wouldn't the bolt start opening too soon with a longer barrel? I. E. It won't be very safe to shoot with a longer barrel?

if it is blowback operated wouldn't the bolt be moving backwards the instant the cartridge is fired regardless of barrel length? Since there is no locking system/gas operation that delays the opening.

Right. I'm not sure if you might end up with the bolt open and the bullet still in the barrel like a squib. Thus the need for stronger springs to keep the bolt closed longer. And also the gun potentially unsafe with just a barrel change. But I could be wrong, please correct me if so.

I've been following this guy back then, but couldn't find a way to send my skorpion to him at the time. And now they don't do that any more - the guy in the video (can't remember his name unfortunately) had some personal stuff to take care of and stepped back from the business.
