To the owners of these firearms, how do they compare to each other in terms of performance, quality, and accuracy? Are VZ 52/57's worth the extra few hundred dollars?

VZ52

bad points
-Harder to clean
-Hard to find parts
-Stripper clip guide will not except SKS stripper clips
-Heavyier
-pricey

Good point
-shoots abit better

Worth mentioning that the Czechs tested the SKS against their VZ and decided that the SKS was the better rifle overall. Mostly from an ease of maintenance and production basis. I love my VZ dearly, the engineering is cool!, but if I had to choose which "take to war" it would be the SKS.

Don't choose if you don't have to! VZs are expensive, relatively speaking, but SKSs are still available cheap, so if you can, get both! I am not sorry I bought my VZ

Well said on both counts!

I'll add this to my original post above - I really like my SKS, and I can shoot it well... but now that I have an SKS (2, actually - for the time being), the CZ-858 isn't far behind!

You just can't beat the price of 7.62x39.
