Vz52/57

The Czechs make quality goods.
Ever examine a VZ54 sniper rifle? Its a Mosin Nagant based rifle, but it isn't quite like anything that came out of Mother Russia.

Had to look that one up, very interesting and would love to shoot one. If I had to guess, it looks almost like the Czechs wanted to make a Mauser/VZ24-based sniper rifle, but it had to be in 7.62x54R so they used spare mosin-nagant receivers instead and added some of the mauser parts and design elements to them.

I honestly can't think of a Czech gun I've shot that I didn't like

I suspect that they didn't have a choice in the matter, but if they had to stay with the MN, they did it their way.

If it is wrong to have guns and not shoot them, maybe. I have one in my safe for over 15 years and it is also 15 years since I fired it.
I was born in Czech Republic and have it more as a little bit of history. The 52 was in service a short time and didn't see any conflict.
Originally it was made for a Czech round 7.62 x 45 and short time after for 7.62 x 39 do to Rusia. As far as I know, only corrosive ammo was used. They replaced them with vz 58 but I remember that guard standing in front of government building around 1980 still had Chrome plated 52 at there side.

When I'm dead it won't matter about how great of an investment it was. Enjoy them while you are on this side of the dirt

you are so wright my friend I think of that all the time. The new son-in- laws The wife's new husband Fck one day I'm going to light them all up a shoot the hell out of them and get them to toss them in my casket Send us to Heaven LOL

I need the piston scraper. Otherwise my kit is complete. I even have an extra cleaning rod and a few stripper clips as well.

They are very nice indeed. Ive owned a vz 52/57 and did like it a lot , but I also had a mint vz52 and kept it and sold the 52/57. Most people might not agree but I found the 7.62x45 superior in accuracy to the 7.62x39. (Thank you milarms for talking me into Buying a lot of ammo while it was cheap). I would say the sks is more modern in design but not the quality and not near as accurate. I think the vz52 and vz52/57 were rifles caught between two times, a little bit mauser and a little bit assault rifle. A neat piece of history though.

Great, now I want one!

:) ... I know the feeling ... its always better when someone concludes that "X" or "Y" rifle is a POS ... then you can move on happily....I know I can!! Sometimes I feel like "Frog" in the Wind and the Willows ... ' boing ... OOOOHHH a MOTOR CAAAR!!!

Did you shoot it yet ?

I took my new to me Rasheed out today:p

Next a vz;)

Not yet ... but this spring its in for a small baptism. I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR RASHID! ... temptation get behind me....(very nice rifle that Rashid). It would be real nice to find a very clean VZ52 and crates of 7.62x45 for it ... like RDRash has ... I image the VZ52 chambered as it was originally designed would the cats bottom

I see Rasheeds in the EE at least once a month. All of them for less then I paid for mine too, lol.

Also allot of vz52/57 rifles there the last few weeks.
