Walked into a local gun story looking for something else, and came across this. A 1955 vz52 SHE that was in need of some love and care. I hummed and ha'd for a while on this and finally said what the hell.

The Bad...
- Lower stock and related metal have been thoroughly sanded and is very rough. Wood could be saved, some metal needs replacing.
- Minor pitting on one spot of the recoil spring cover
- Blueing or paint (whichever it is) has faded on the upper hand guard metal
- Bayonet is missing
- barrel cover (?) under the hand guard has a different serial number

The Good...
- Bore is bright and has strong grooves, appears original
- Upper handguard serial number matches the receiver
- Comes with one magazine, not pictured, getting pinned :(
- Got 75 rounds of 7.62x45 with it, on stripper clips (said 40 originally, can't do the math apparently)

So.... anyone got any ideas where to find a bayo???

Nice project you got. The bayonet is available from Numrich and with request, you can have the hardware to mount it to the rifle.

You can also get a chamber insert so you can shoot 7.62X39 !
I got one from Numrich several yrs ago , Haven't installed it yet still have a bunch of 7.62X45 to use up first
My upper handguard cover looked like yours , I used flat black spray paint on it and it has held up great

Haven't used mine yet . I've heard they do come out over time . You would know by the look of the spent round.

Got one years ago to convert 30/06 to .308, but never used it either. Directions called to install it with Lok tite, but apparently they would blow out after a while. Think the US navy tried that in Garand conversions but gave up.

Ya, at the end of the day the rifle will cost the same to fix it up as finding an original one would cost. I won't say cost isn't an issue, but I do want to bring it back right. Finding an original stock seems to be near impossible.
