vz58 6.5 grendel anyone?

Looks sweet to me.

It is great that there is someone in Ontario willing to make some of these cheap military style rifles into a caliber that you can hunt yotes, raccons, ground hogs, and deer in southwestern Ontario with :)

You have my extreme interest.

Are the primers hard to come by?

seems like they are lately, all distributors sold out of all brands

Compared to most other black and green rifles in the country, the CZ is quite cheap.

And I didn't mean to offend, it just strikes me as a very unusual project. usually people convert to a more mainstream caliber like .223 or .308

-.223 and .308 share completely different case head sizes and geometry, they wouldn't work. 6.5 Gren's based on the 7.62x39 to start with, and works perfectly from mags and actions designed therefore with an incredible difference in performance.

-The 6.5 Gren's just about the absolute medium cartridge, handles everything, shoots farther and flatter than .308 in long range roles, recoils, muzzle blasts, and heats the barrel less. Sounds like a .223, penetrates better than a .308, and is more accurate than both.

Here's the one I built. If anyone wants to buy my reamer, it's available.

what did you do to remove and install the barrels? just press it out with a jig?

i hammered the sh1t out of it with a big hammer, just kidding
the vz barrel is sweated in under pressure from what i gather, something like
2 thou oversize for the hole.
i had to cut off the barrel and bore the stub thin then drift it with a brass punch. i wasnt gonna save the old barrel as it was toast anyway, so no going back to 7.62x39

hows the cz shoot ardent?

In most WMU's of Southwestern Ontario you can not hunt with a rifle 30cal or larger

6.5, 270 ect are under 30cal.

Really does not make sense but who am I to question LOL

Was wondering if someone had the mod completed on their gun as I was hoping to but ran into $$ shortages :(

Would really like to see more on how this finished out though.

There are goofy hunting restrictions all over the place. Get a committee involved in most anything and hilarity will ensure. Good on him for taking a rifle of little use to him, and making it useful then.

I'd recommend trying necked down x39 brass to save on the lapua cost though. Though in the original caliber, there are a number of people around here shooting handloads out of the 858, and none of them have been whining about brass life.

d:h: It's >.275" and it applies to the hunting of small game only.

The holder of a small game licence may not use a rifle of
greater calibre than .275, except a flintlock or percussion
cap muzzle-loading gun, for hunting small game in
the counties of Brant, Elgin, Essex, Huron, Lambton,
Middlesex, Northumberland, Oxford, Perth and
Wellington and the regional municipalities of Chatham/
Kent, Durham, the former regional municipalities of
Haldimand-Norfolk and Hamilton-Wentworth, Halton,
Niagara, Peel, Waterloo and York and the City of Toronto

not quite finished but it shoots
front sight isnt pinned and i havent decided on barrel length yet
only two problems
1- semi auto's loose the expensive brass

2- overall length is very critical but no probs with sierra 85gr hp

  1. Contact me if you want a brass catcher that will work for this rifle.
  2. Longer is always best but it all depends on what you want to do with your rifle.

I have always thought that a 6.5 something or other would be great in the 858. 7.62x39 necked down would have been my first choice. Good for you - should be a great hunting rig to get the libs attention.
