Part 1....
As I said in my 'intro' post, I really just want to start shooting again for the hell of it. I just want to have fun.

The first purchase on my list so far, is going to be a VZ58.

Isn't it every boy's dream to own an Eastern Block Bannana-Clip Assault Rifle ? (legally that is...).

Anyways, is this rifle a waste of time ? To the current owners, Do you like it ?

My 'take' on it, is that it's CHEAP to shoot, it's cheap in itself and like I said above - Bannana-Clip.....lol

The ALTERNATIVE is an SKS.......but I would prefer the VZ58.

Part 2....
Once I stock up on a bunch of 7.62 x 39 Rounds, can anyone suggest a second rifle that is chambered for that round ?
Something inexpensive ? Bolt Action ?

What I would really like to AVOID doing is buying multiple calibre rounds, as I only really plan to purchase 3 guns......that's pretty much it.
1) VZ58
2) 'Bolt Action' (7.62 x 39) Rifle
3) 9mm Pistol (so my wife can join in, part time)

I want to do this 'on the cheap', yet have fun, without it becoming my #1 Hobby by firing the 2 cheapest rounds I can buy today.... 9mm & 7.62 x 39.

Thanks in advance,
Allan

Other than being 'Rest' & 'Non'......How does the 'Short' barrel fire compred to the 'Long' barrel version that are both available now in Canada ?

I would be leaning more towards the short barrel myself.

Who sells the VZ58 currently ? I noticed that Marstar's site doesn't have the page present any longer.

Any other Forum Dealers ? Who would YOU choose ?

You are right......I think I just opened up a can of worms here...lol

I am about half ways through looking at the 'Tacticool thread' and know for sure that I will own 2 CZ/VZ's rather than just 1 like I originally planned.

A long barrel with a big fat scope and bi-pod..... and a short barrel folder......both 'Tacticooled'.....lol

Well, that takes care of my 2 rifles to get started.....lol

I have +50,000rnds through my 858... 2 stoppages. I'd say that's pretty good.

Excellent rifle, and there's some accessories coming out that'll really kick this thing into the front.

Love my 858 its non restricted so i can take it up in the bush with me... not trying to start a spin off of a million comments but SOME people feel that a barrel that isnt chrome lined is more accurate, as well as a longer barrel would be more accurate thus the non-restricted longer barrel length would logically be more accurate all around. but this is only SOME peoples OPINIONS and is not the gospel truth.. check through the sticky on em

Bore is still pretty strong. Accuracy is probably 80% that from factory. It's rated to take that and more. It's a strong 2-2.5MOA at 100.

basically.. the non chrome barrel has more than enough life in it for 99% of people shooting it for sporting purposes.

Wow... 50,000 Rounds.

How many rounds can I order/keep on hand legally ?

...just in case I want to prepare for Zombies and the eventual US invasion of Alberta for our Oil..... ?

Coooooooooool! So i dont really need to worry about wearing out my 858:D

It is good to know the barrel still holds up after 50,000+ rounds. What about other parts? What parts tend to wear and require replacement? What do you recommend as a good spare parts kit to have on hand?

Part 1 --> Good choice
Part 2 --> Good luck, ha ha ha ha ha ha, ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Two guns, bwahahahahaha!!! OMG, dying laughing here, too funny!!!

Okay okay, back on track... You need MORE than two rifles & a pistol... Look at it like this...

You need a 22
You need a 22 centerfire
You need a 6mm or 243
You need a 7.62x39
You need a 7.62 NATO (308)
You need a 300 Win Mag or WSM
You need a 375 H&H or 416...
You need a 12 Gauge
You need a 22 pistol
You need a 9mm pistol
You need a 40 cal pistol
You need... Ah hell, you get the idea...

WELCOME to the addiction!

Cheers
Jay

everybody will agree on your part 1 .

part 2 is possible but you will need more than 3 guns , maybe 4-5.

two years ago i decided i didnt want too many different cal. so i reduced it to 3 ammo, 7.62x39 , .223 and 9mm . i have CZ858, SKS, M4 and pistol.
