Hi ya folks,

Cleaning my vz58 compact sporter 7.5 in 5.56 for the first time. All is well except I cant remove the gaz rod and the spring....
Tried everything and the cd manual doesn't cover it. The sring for the gaz rod is under the rear site housing. Removed the top cover and I can see the gaz rod and I managed to compress it with a screw driver but doesn't compress enough for the rod to come out. There must be way to get that thing out.
Plz help

You should be able to simply pull straight backwards towards the rear of the rifle on the gas piston/rod. Once it clears the front "cylinder"/gas housing, you pull upwards and away from the rifle. Should be easy.

I realize that the video is a full size, but the theory is the same. Just use a screw driver (I prefer a brass punch) to get the piston pushed back to the stop.

Yeah I know but its a 7.5 version of the sporter. the one in the video is not the 7.5 inch version.
You can pull the rod backwards with a screwdriver (your hand wont fit..very small rod) but not enough clearance from the front to pull it out...Very strange...

Here I took some pics...

Well I wish I could be more help but mine a compact in 5.56 comes out easily. Keep trying it should come out. Have you tried giving it a half a turn? Don't know might help. If you can't get it maybe try what powerwagon said. Maybe make groove a little deeper.

I turned it full 180 as I pulled forward and up to clear the gaz block but no go...It just needs a hair and it will come out. Im going to sand a bit the groove on the upper of that gaz block like powerwagon suggested

Thanks for the help folks. After I sanded a bit that gaz chamber it came out.
But what a pain the ass to clean that 7.5 sporter...Everything is at an angle and compact. The worst is cleaning that gaz chamber and the gaz spring housing. Oh...Barrel and bullet chamber wasn't easy as well...

Lol I thought the worst thing about the compact was how loud it is and the muzzle flash. Or maybe that's one of the best things?
Glad you got it apart :)
They are a sweet little set up though. Lotta firepower in a small package!! :)
Just finishing up a full wood kit for my new nonrestricted vz58 then I think I'll do up a set for my compact. Like bfiles his are nice!!

No dought...Awsome riffle..
I bought it cause of the noise and the flash/heat in your face wild beast...lol
I have the break on it so you can imagine how much the drama is amplified.

I have the same break for mine. Definetly reduces flash. I found that they stay on target pretty good stock. With Double taps I was getting respectable groups. I wasn't planning on putting an optic on mine. But after having it out yesterday I'm thinking I might have to. Eyes must be getting old :) if I do I'll probably go with the bc tactical scout mount and a trs-25. How do you like the side mount?
