I picked up a second hand CSA VZ58 sporter with no signs of it really being fired. Owner said he put about 50rds downrange and then it sat in his safe. I took it to the range and every time I drop the bolt on a fresh mag the round gets lodged against the chamber. Every so often it will feed and then fires the whole mag no problem. ANy suggestions?

Nope after the first one did that the "being too gentle" was my first thought so I made sure i was just ripping it back and letting it go. I thought maybe the spring was weak but I haven't had time to touch it since to really see. Just thought I'd see if anyone else had the issue and if there were a few possible suggestions to look at.

Also ya no tactical bolt release.. all I've done is add a side mount rail, ar buttstock adapter with MOE butt and a muzzle brake

This is it so far...

What happens when your remove the side mount rail (mount-fasteners) from the receiver and repeat the exercise?
i.e. thread/burr slowing down the bolt? Are you using military surplus ammunition or commercial?

Is it difficult to load the fifth round into the mag? If so, they may not have been pinned/riveted in exactly the right place.

I have an identical problem with 8 steel mags that I bought online. They fail to feed first round when 5 are loaded but function flawlessly when only 4 rounds are loaded...

Could be carrier catching something and slowing down, or could be weak springs.
Field strip the rifle, put only bolt carrier back, no striker, no bolt, no lugs, just carrier. Put carrier in the slots and from this point slowly start moving forward. The movement should be all smooth, on the way forward carrier should not catch anything. What might happen with very strong leaf spring is that carrier catching striker catch and slows down and causing FTF. You have to depress the spring to resolve this. I had this issue once on cz858, it never affected feeding Romanian surplus, but every third Chinese round was FTF.

watched the video.. nope it's only when I drop the bolt on a fresh mag. After it finally fires the first round the next 4 are flawless. I will try as Horilka explained also next chance I get.

I had some problems feeding with barnul ammo. It kept pushing the projectile into the casing. I've never had an issue with any other ammo or mags before or after. I have the mag conversion aswell, Mine is also the .223 version.
