Just take shoelaces and try with that first FFS.
Sometimes I wonder how some people make it through the day without a minimal amount of resourcefulness.

Sorry not trying to be a ####, but you know...if you can take a gun appart and back together, do you really need us to figure out the length of a piece of string for you?

I'm just saying...sometimes helping someone out is not telling them what they want to know, but rather what they need to hear.
 
I ended up doing trial and error and wasted a couple of feet. Not the end of the world. I am always ready to offer help if I am able, apparently not a belief held by everyone on the board. Thanks to those with advice.
 
Foggy, Depending on the length of what you have to start with... just use that and cut off the excess... I have made a 6.5'' bracelet before using 50 feet of cord when I first started out... sure its a pain to pull that much through at a time.. but little to no waste.
