Alright, got my new vz58 rifle today. I wanted to replace the wood furniture and started with the pistol grip.

I removed the long bolt with threaded end and removed old grip. Than I tried to put new one on but could not. There is no nut there to screw bolt back into. It did not fall out, but good be inside loose. Does anyone know how I can fix this and is this normal?

Ive had this thing for an hour and all I've done is wiped the grease off from the outer of the gun.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure..I'm a newbie to guns and I'm searching the usa manual online..

if this helps..I can't dry fire the pistol and cannot fieldstrip because of this. I.m trying to take pics but they keep coming out of focus. I will keep tring and post when done.

you can not change the grip without removing the carrier and bolt so to do that you need to dry fire first , then remove the top cover by moving the locking pin behind the top cover to the right and then push the top cover 1/2" forward and up , then remove the carrier and bolt by sliding rear ward. look down in the trigger mechanism area you will see a square nut , pull it out with a needle nose plyer , look at it , you will notice that its angled at the bottom so now place the nut back in , hold it down with the plyer while screwing the grip back in... good luck .

okay, how can I remove the top cover without dry firing first since I already took the grip off. Can the top cover come off without relieving the pressure?

it was design to dry fire before field stripping so dont be afraid , go ahead and pull the trigger.

I am having trouble understanding this, sorry. When i got my cz858 the first thing i did was change the grips. I didn't need to dry fire it to get it out. It was just a screw that was in the hole. The screw, screws into the reciver behinde the trigger gaurd. Even if you "DO" have to dry fire it, just pull the slide back and hit the trigger.

The hand grips took a little more thought, but i got er done.

Like urban ops said you don't need the pistol grip to dry fire it. There is no "pressure" There is only pressure when you have fired a round. Even then it isn't "stored" pressure. You have to dry fire it every time you want to clean it. So get used to it :)

the first thing you should have done was to do a safety check and that means cocking the action then you would have to dry fire to remove the top cover, you probably done it just before and forgot, right? :D

Make sure the chamber is empty before pulling the trigger, LOL :)
But seriously, check the chamber, move the safety to fire and pull the trigger.

Okay, I was @ work all night so I could not defend myself here ...

Yes, Ive taken the top cover off by by dry firing first, then removing pin and pulling top off. Yes, then I reassembled. So its all back to together.

Now being a rookie, I did not know that i had to take the top cover off to switch pistol grips. What I ended up doing is unscrewing the pistol grip screw from bottom. The grip fell off right away with a few turns (top cover still on) I went to screw new grip on..but there is no more nut inside to screw back in.

So, Im trying to dry fire to release pressure from top cover..but no 'click'..I can squeeze trigger all I want but no 'click'...and I cannot remove top cover...

Ive checked the safety and all the obvious ...I think when I wake up later I will record this problem and post on youtube...and put link on here for all to see...I hope Im dumb and its an easy fix!

disregard my last message..the Rookie has succeeded! I had to hold the trigger back and than pull off top cover at same time. Than I found nut loose inside , put back where suppose to be and held there with needle nose pliers while screwing grip in. Now I get the 'click' when dry firing.

Thanks Currton!!

now a new problem..I want to remove the lower half of handguard but cannot get pin out..is there a secret to this or do I just punch it out with a little force...??

by the way..this is the last piece..I already got the buttstock out.

Tap the pin gently with a punch so u can reuse it

i just used a center punch thin enough, you'll have to use a couple of good hits. Don't worry it won't break it's all metal, mate. And pull good and hard on the old one, once the pin in out. Pull right at the base where the pin was, "straight down". Mine was in there pretty good.

I understand why you couldn't get the grip back on.. lol. You need nuts to screw:D

thats correct , cant screw it back cos the nut is loose .... ya welcome .... try to ignore some of the members rookie comments .

now after you remove the pin that holds the lower HG , some times the lower HG are difficult to remove , use a rubber mallet and tap the rear top part (evenly both sides) and it should come down .
