Vz58 rebarrel

Got burned on the EE over a CZH2003 N/R that was abused... the chrome lined barrel is toast from extreme neglect and withheld by the seller. The action itself is still serviceable albeit some wear on the bolt rails.

Been quoted $700 for a Green Mountain nitrated barrel. Double the price of a stainless barrel from the same supplier.

Who else other than Dlask does Vz58 work?

I would think you could do better price on a barrel then that. Sounds like a nice project rifle for a walther lothar barrel.

You might also consider, since you are changing the barrel anyway, switching over to 6.5 Grendel. Great calibre and turns your 7.62 x 39mm 300m gun into a 1200m rifle!

Nah. I like cheap ammo and 300 yards is a realistic range for intended use. I have other rifles for long range.

They are the only one in Canada setup to press the barrels in/out properly.
Pardon the Pun but you may have to "bite the bullet."

How bad is the original barrel? Chrome barrels will take a $hit kicking for the most part. Is it shot out or is the chrome flaking?

Last time I checked, Dlask hasen't pressed out/in vz barrels for a couple years now; they might still be setup for cutting off & drilling out the old barrel, threading the receiver and spinning on a custom barrel, but I don't know if they still provide that service.

I emailed Herron Arms this same question years ago for a 6.5 Grendel Conversion. They wouldn't touch it - too much hassle.

Vz barrels are pressed into the receivers, you need a 15-20 ton press for the job. Last time I called Bits of Pieces they said they do not work on them. If you know for a fact that they do, please confirm.

Thing I don't understand is how Chrome lined barrel can get neglected? These things suppose to be neglected. That's why they are there for, is to be neglected and still be shooting. So was it non chromed barrel?
