I just have a question many rifles out there usually have a certain number of rounds go through them before they start to deteriorate and soon become less than optimal.

How long do you think a vz58 will last? or do they just keep ticking?
I hear nothing about any of them getting worn out, just wondering.

I have seen them personally with 50,000 rounds through them. That one has more than that as I owned it prior to the 50,000 round owner and put about 5,000 rounds through it, and it was second hand to me and the previous owner claimed about 1000 rounds through it.

Not bad for a $600 rifle.

Who knows. They may last for hundred of thousands of rounds before they need to be smelted because they are unsafe to fire.

The best thing to do is to do regular maintenance. Guns need it, just like any other machine...

they may continue on ticking along for many tens of thousands of rounds, but accuracy may fall off way before any major mechanical failures.

I believe the service life is supposed to be 50k rounds. That doesn't mean that @ 50k the gun is scrap, but that would be the point where the rifle would either be surplussed or rebuilt (likely surplussed in the case of the VZ58) Often 50k rounds for a military rifle means significantly more wear then 50k on a civilian firearm. One unknown with the rifles we have in Canada is the fact that they are to varying extents made from surplussed parts, so certain parts may fail before the "military service life", or it may last 100k. Either way for $700 the vz/cz rifles are a steal of a deal.
